Hello to all on Gen-Med from southern Virginia,

Since I received so few responses related to my request for
help with Peter de BRUS, I thought I'd try again with one of
the related lines I'm researching.

Can anyone provide me with multiple generations [the more,
the better] of ancestors and descendants of Miles (de?)
STAPLETON, [b. abt. 1262 in Bedah, England, married 1285 in
England, died 24 June 1314 at Bannockburn, Scotland], who
married Sybil BellaAqua [see my earlier message on de BRUS
for details]. The other researcher who sent me the
information gives Miles' father as Nicholas, and his
mother as Margaret (de?) BASSETT. The same researcher
identified 2 children of Miles and Sybil -- 1) Gilbert (b.
1290, died 1321), who married Agnes FitzBrian December 15,
1317 in England; and 2) Nicholas, b. abt. 1287. If the
information he sent me is accurate, I descend from Gilbert
and Agnes, through their son Brian [b. 1320 in
Carlton-Wighill, Yorkshire, England, died 1394], who md.
Alice de St. Philbert. Through Brian and Alice, I
apparently descend through their daughter Margaret [b. abt.
1362 in England], who married William [de?] THORNTON. I
then have a number of generations of
THORNTON ancestry before any other major family lines are
involved [one being METCALFE].

I'd appreciate learning whatever information might be
available about ancestors/descendants of those
families, especially if anyone can give me details that
identify valid sources. As I stated in my earlier
de BRUS message, I have no ready access to medieval
information [such as CP or ES]. My local
public library has a few of the older Burke's Peerage books,
which I'll check [learning about my de BRUS, THORNTON,
METCALFE ancestry happened too recently for me to have an
opportunity to look
in those books]. I would do the above research myself
[GLADLY] if I had ready access to the right
books, so I would be especially happy to get photocopies of
the appropriate book pages for my
documentation files.

I look forward to hearing from anyone -- anywhere -- who
thinks he or she can help with this project.

Best wishes for genealogical successes this year and in the
future,

Richard B. Anderson, Jr., Danville, Virginia USA

Sorry, I left out 32. Geoffrey Stapleton, b. bef. 1154; d. after 1192.
CP and Sheppard's work on the immigrants Carleton and his wife, Newton.

Sibyl BellaAqua in your post is actually Sibyl Bellew.
Bella Aqua is the Latin form of Bellew.

Robert, I think - espec. judging by the source you trust - that maybe you
mean that the first Nicholas and Sir Roger are brothers, sons of Geoffrey?
Just thought I'd mention it, though without the time to check! (And thanks
for your thanks for my thanks!)

Cris, you are absolutely right. I have checked CP & the first Nicholas &
Roger were indeed, at least according to CP, were brothers. Thnak you for
pointing out my error.

The line of the early Stapletons should therefore read:

GEOFFREY de STAPLETON, of Stapleton-on-Tees, Yorks., living 1192. He had

issue: CP XII:1, p 259

1.Nicholas, M Alice. d.s.p CP XII:1, p 259
