In February of this year following the thread ' Hounding the
Baskervilles ' I contacted Michael Miller and suggested that the known
history of the Baskerville family was flawed and needed a thorough
overhaul.
Since that time we have worked on the Eardisley line to the exclusion
of other off-shoot branches. Most of my research has been conducted in
the State Library of Victoria (Australia) and the Melbourne University
Library, both being richly endowed with Medieval research material. Two
visits were made to the State Library of South Australia and the Barr
Smith Library, University of Adelaide.
Marianne Percival of the Reference Library Hereford generously copied
various sections of the COLLECTIONS TOWARDS THE HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES
OF THE COUNTY OF HEREFORD IN CONTINUATION OF DUNCUMB'S HISTORY by
various authors, and the notes from 'The Baskervilles of Herefordshire,
1086-1300' by Bruce Coplestone-Crow, published in the 'Transactions of
Woolhope Field Naturalists' Field Club Vol. XLIII.' (1979). Matthew
Connolly had earlier kindly sent me copies of Coplestone-Crow article
and the notes were a very welcome addition.
Copies of 'Feet of Fines' were obtained from Documents Online; Michael
Miller transcribed the Courthand Latin and translated into English.
There is still one Fine outstanding which requires personal examination
at the P.R.O. and I'd be most grateful if anyone could assist in this
regard.
There is a descendent line of 16 generations attached. In the near
future I'll publish as much as has been found for each generation
including, if applicable, the relevant section from Bruce
Coplestone-Crow's article in a series of submissions to this list.

Tony thank you for your excellent post.
Could you specify exactly why you think Richard was "born by 1327".
That change would alter the chronology I had.
Thanks

Many thanks Tim for your reply.

I assume that he was of age when the following fine was made. It
appears to be part of a marriage settlement.

1347/8 P.R.O. CP 25/1/77/67 No. 289.
Richard son of Sir Richard de Baskerville and Johanna, his wife,
daughter of Adam de Everyngham, pl.
Sir Richard de Baskerville, def.
Def. released his right to the manor of Combe Baskerville to pl. and
their issue, with remainder to def. and his heirs.
Quinzaine of St Hilary 27 Jan 1347/8

I'll send you copies of the Feet of Fines in another Email.

Regards,

Tony
