Simon Poland is a British character actor who has appeared on stage, film, and television. He is not a star by any means, but seems to have a solid career as a working actor:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0688857/

The only reason I've focused on him is that he is the most public figure amongst his siblings, who have very interesting ancestry behind each of their parents. Simon's father is John Michael Poland (born 23 May 1925) who married 1952 (divorce 1983), Diana Mary Angela Forbes O'Connor. I cannot uncover a birthdate for Diana. She is not in the BirthMarriageDeath Index for England & Wales, so she must've been born elsewhere, almost certainly Australia.

Simon, his parents, siblings, and Poland uncles, aunts & cousins, all appear in Burke's Peerage 107th Edition (2003), p. 3709 (sub Stafford). BP is not very up-to-date on these Polands. Though Simon is unmarried, several of his siblings and cousins have marriages and children that can be found in the BMD Index for England & Wales, most of which BP has not carried forward. A bit of a shame, as Simon and his Poland relations are descendants of Charles II.

The first Polands to arrive in England were two German brothers, Peter Raymond Pohland (1760-1827) and Johann Georg Pohland (1764-1816). They were from a long line of furriers based in Hof in Bavaria, and each brother established a successful fur business in London in the 1780s:
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/POLING/2000-12/0976023902

Johann Georg, his name Anglicized to John George Poland, established his business in the Marylebone district of London, and Poland Street, a small street in SoHo off of Oxford Street, derives its name from the family furrier business. Henry Gordon Poland (1857-1926), a great-grandson of John George, joined Lloyds of London as an insurance underwriter, and Henry's male descendants, including Simon's father John and his father's brothers, have all had careers in underwriting, and with the firm of Lloyds in particular.

Peter Poland (b. 1923), still going strong at age 90 in South Africa, is an author of several WWII-related books, and has posted a very interesting one-page autobiography for Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Poland/e/B0054YGNVC

He mentions his relationship to the Barons Stafford, and touches on how, for the first three years of his life, his mother was the heiress presumptive to her three unmarried Fitzherbert uncles. It's interesting to think that the ancient barony of Stafford came close to passing down to the Poland family, at least until the youngest Fitzherbert uncle married and fathered two sons in 1926 and 1928, insuring the male line into the next generation.

Leo doesn't have actor Simon Poland or his parents in his database, but he does have Simon's author uncle, Peter Poland, here;
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00522001&tree=LEO

Simon's eleven-generation descent from Charles II, is as follows.

Charles II = Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland, and had
1) Lady Charlotte FitzRoy, illegit. (1664-1718) m. Edward Lee, 1st Earl of Lichfield (1663-1716, descended from Edward III), and had
2) George Henry Lee, 2nd Earl of Lichfield (1690-1743) m. Frances Hales (c.1698-1769, descended from Edward III), and had
3) Lady Charlotte Lee (1720-1794) m. Henry, 11th Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallen (1705-1787, descended from Edward III), and had
4) Hon. Frances Dillon (1747-1825) m. Sir William Jerningham, 6th Baronet of Costessey (1736-1809, descended from Edward III), and had
5) George Stafford-Jerningham, 2nd Baron Stafford (1771-1851) m. 1) Frances Henrietta Sulyard (1777-1832, descended from Edward III), and had
6) Hon. Edward Stafford-Jerningham (1804-1849) m. Marianne Smythe (c.1806-1859, descended from Edward IV), and had
7) Emily Charlotte Stafford-Jerningham (1835-1881) m. Basil Thomas Fitzherbert of Swynnerton Park (1836-1919, descended from Edward III), and had
8) Hon. Beatrice Mary Teresa Fitzherbert (1862-1949) m. Sir Trevor John Chichele-Plowden (1846-1905, descended from Edward I), and had
9) Hester Mary Beatrice Chichele-Plowden (1902-1993) m. Kenneth Gordon Poland (1896-1970), and had
10) John Michael Poland (b. 1925) m. (div.) Diana Mary Angela Forbes O'Connor (descended from Henry VII), and had
11) Simon John Joseph Poland (b. 1957), British stage, screen, & voiceover actor

Though Simon Poland and his parents are new to Leo's database Genealogics, they do appear in Burke's Peerage, the above line is easily traced through the Stafford article, and isn't groundbreaking in any sense.

Simon's mother's ancestry, however, is equally fascinating, and contains far more surprises. It includes an Irish convict transported to Western Australia (where he became a real estate tycoon), a descent from Henry VII overlooked by Ruvigny, a mistress of James II of Britain, a circumnavigating admiral cousin of Lord Byron, a clergyman's wife with a (relatively rare) descent from Henry IV, and many lines of descent from Edward III not yet in Genealogics, The Peerage, or the Roglo online databases. It also, for awhile, seemed like it would include Pocahontas, but that, disappointingly, turned out to be a false line.

As it's getting late now, I'll hopefully make a follow-up post tomorrow.

Cheers, -----Brad

Dear Olivier,

Many thanks to you and to Paul Theroff. He is much more up-to-date on the Polands than Burke's Peerage. Is Paul in contact with the family for this information? For example, I didn't have the marriage of Simon's brother Jonathan to Gordana Toplak - it's not in the BMD Index for England & Wales.

At any rate, this saves me a lot of work combing through that BMD Index on my own - this will make the research on the current generations so much easier.

Thanks again - much appreciated!!

Cheers, ----Brad

To be fair, rather than overlooking it, it's more likely that Ruvigny simply published his Tudor Roll volume too soon to include the Moore/Byron marriage discussed below.

Diana O'Connor, the mother of actor Simon Poland, is not currently in Leo's database, but her parents are. Diana is the daughter of Leo Forbes O'Connor of Cottesloe (a suburb of Perth in Western Australia), born 1900 at Perth, and died 23 January 1958 at St John of God Hospital, Perth. He married 24 February 1930 in England, Daphne Mary Byron (born 13 June 1909 at Birstall, Leicestershire, died February 1989 in Surrey).
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00307026&tree=LEO

Diana's paternal O'Connor ancestry is very interesting. Her paternal grandparents were Michael O'Connor (born 11 November 1865 at Newcastle [Toodyay], Western Australia; died 6 July 1940), a physician in Perth who entered politics, and was a Member Western Australian Legislative Assembly 1901-1904:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_O'Connor_(Australian_politician)

Dr Michael O'Connor married 1896 at Perth, Beatrice Margaret Mary Forbes (born 1871 at Colchester, Essex, died 3 December 1905 at Akarana, Adelaide Terrace, Perth), daughter of Charles Doyly Forbes, son of James Villiers Forbes, son in turn of Gen. Thomas John Forbes. These names sound very posh, but I've been unable to place them in the baronial Forbes family of Scotland.

Dr O'Connor was the son Daniel Connor (1831-1898), from County Kerry in Ireland, convicted of stealing sheep in 1850, and transported to Western Australia, where he eventually became one of the largest landowners in central Perth, with an estate valued at over £76000 at his death:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Connor

Though there are no obvious royal ancestors in Diana's paternal O'Connor ancestry, this is more than made up for in her maternal ancestry. Her mother was a sister of the 11th Baron Byron of Rochdale. Diana's maternal grandmother, Sylvia Mary Moore, appears in Ruvigny's 'Tudor Roll' (1903) volume on p. 486 as #33589. Ruvigny doesn't include Sylvia's marriage to Wilfrid Byron, understandably, as it took place just two years prior to the book's publication. Diana O'Connor derives her Henry VII descent from her maternal grandmother Sylvia and the Moores of Appleby Hall. Since Leo doesn't have it in his database (though he will once he connects up Generations 13 & 14 below), the full 17-generation descent for Diana O'Connor from Henry VII is as follows.

Henry VII had a dau

Dear Olivier,

Please pass on to Paul that I can add one additional Poland marriage for his database. Katherine Jill Poland (granddaughter of the 90-year-old author Peter Poland), above, married in 2005, Michael A.P. Mortiz.

And thank him again for sharing all of his current Poland family data with me.

For over 30 years, Australia had its own Lord Byron. Rupert Frederick George Byron was born 13 August 1903 at Peckleton House, Leicestershire. In 1922, when he was 19, his father, Col. Wilfrid Byron, who had served in the 2nd Boer War, and commanded the 3rd/1st Leicestershire Yeomanry in World War I, moved with his wife and three children (Rupert, younger son Maurice, and daughter Daphne) to Western Australia. Col. Byron's sister Katherine was the wife of Sir William Campion, the governor of Western Australia from 1924-1931.

Rupert married Pauline Cornwall, from the town of Wagin in Western Australia, and started up a 1,250-acre sheep farm named Egleston, in the rural town of Dinninup, 200 miles north of Perth. When Rupert succeeded his childless elderly British cousin to the barony of Byron of Rochdale in 1949, a reporter travelled out to the farm in Dinninup to meet the new Lord. The reporter arrived to find that "the 11th Lord Byron" was still out in the paddock bringing in the cattle, and was very nonchalant about the whole business. He was far more concerned about the faulty distributor on his tractor, than about Thrumpton Hall, the ancestral home of the Byrons in Nottinghamshire, whether or not he had come into any money, or whether he would take a seat in the House of Lords:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/47668180

A brief follow-up article a month later announced that Rupert intended to travel to England to accept the title of 11th Baron Byron:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/82384858?searchTerm=%22Rupert%20Byron%22&searchLimits=exactPhrase=Rupert+Byron|||anyWords|||notWords|||l-textSearchScope=*ignore*%7C*ignore*|||fromdd|||frommm|||fromyyyy|||todd|||tomm|||toyyyy|||l-word=*ignore*%7C*ignore*|||sortby

Rupert never occupied Thrumpton Hall - it passed to the family of the widow of the 10th Lord Byron, but he did move to a new farm, Donnybrook, 150 miles south of Perth, the year after he inherited the barony. He didn't travel to England for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/27122833?searchTerm=Baron%20Byron&searchLimits=exactPhrase|||anyWords|||notWords|||l-textSearchScope=*ignore*%7C*ignore*|||fromdd|||frommm|||fromyyyy|||todd|||tomm|||toyyyy|||l-word=*ignore*%7C*ignore*|||sortby

I wonder if he ever took his seat in the House of Lords. It doesn't seem so. By 1977, the 11th Baron had retired from farming and moved to Mount Claremont, a suburb of Perth, where he died on 1 November 1983 at age 80. As his only child was a daughter, the barony passed to a distant male cousin back in England.

Leo has the 11th Baron Byron in his database, here:

The 11th Baron's father was Col. Wilfrid Byron of South Perth, Western Australia. He was born 31 January 1871 at Stoke Talmage, Oxfordshire, and died 7 November 1936 at Hardy Street, South Perth, buried 9 November 1936 at Karrakatta Cemetery, Perth. There is a portrait of Col. Wilfrid (as leader of the 3rd/1st Leicestershire Yeomanry, here (scroll down a bit):
http://www.paoyeomanry.co.uk/PM/LY3rd1stWW1.htm

Col. Wilfrid married 25 September 1901 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Appleby Magna, Leicestershire, Sylvia Mary Moore (born 18 October 1880 at Appleby Hall, Leicestershire; died 27 December 1952, Hampshire). Sylvia was the daughter of Wilfrid's first cousin, Mabel Charlotte Byron (born 20 April 1853 at Bryanstone Square, Westminster; died 19 December 1926 at Lavender Cottage, Appleby Magna).

*I'm one of those who feel there is not enough evidence to support Joan Stradling, the 1st wife of Maurice Dennys of Siston, being a daughter of Jane Beaufort, daughter of Cardinal Henry Beaufort. But for those who feel that connection is valid, then Hon. Frances Berkeley would be a descendant of Edward III thru Cardinal Beaufort.

**Mary Elizabeth Kindersley is a descendant of Sir Thomas Leigh of Addington (1639-1677) and his wife "Hannah, d. and coheir of Anthony Rolfe, of Tuttington, near Aylsham, Co. Norf., gent. (grandson of John Rolfe by Rebecca his wife, d. of Pocahontas, Emperor of Powhattan)":
https://archive.org/stream/noticesoffamilyo00gowe#page/n109/mode/2up
So wrote Victorian-era genealogist Granville Leveson-Gower, in his 1878 book 'Notices of the Family of Leigh of Addington'. Basically, Leveson Gower claimed that Anthony Rolfe of Tuttington was a grandson of Pocahontas and her English husband John Rolfe. This was a strong belief amongst the descendants of Sir Thomas Leigh and Hannah Rolfe, to the point where there is a plaque in St Mary Church, Gravesend, Kent (where Pocahontas is buried) laying out the descent from the Native American princess, thru Hannah Rolfe and Sir Thomas Leigh, down to Edwina Ashley, countess Mountbatten of Burma. A few years after publication, other genealogists pointed out the chronological difficulties in making Anthony Rolfe (born 1600) into a grandson of Pocahontas (c.1595-1617), but the Leigh of Addington descendants were having none of it - they refused to give up the long-standing family tradition of their descent from her:
http://books.google.ca/books?id=5YEDAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA391&lpg=PA391&dq=anthony+rolfe+of+tuttington&source=bl&ots=4v1qPLSP6h&sig=M5n0gHxfsOwVlgqz89ZfuoDljiE&hl=en&sa=X&ei=VZKWUpG-Acf9oATM7IEw&ved=0CEkQ6AEwCA#v=onepage&q=anthony%20rolfe%20of%20tuttington&f=false
I love the irony of British landed gentry refusing to concede the impossibility of their descent from a famous Native American princess, when at the same time across the Pond, many Americans refused to give up belief in their descent from medieval royals, even in the face of evidence that definitively disproved alleged royal lines. The late, much missed genealogist William Addams Reitwiesner very ably debunks the Pocahontas/Hannah Rolfe descent in a 1999 post:
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt.talk.royalty/-Tcf9cnpRlQ/dVeScd8VeHgJ
The Leighs of Addington do, however, have undisputed descents from Edward I.

*There is hardly anything to be found about this German Pole and his wife Anne. The Pole pedigree from the 1569 Visitation pedigree merely lists German as the fourth son of his parents, and doesn't give him a wife or children. He and Anne were married by 1559, though, as they had a daughter Mary Pole christened at Dalbury in 1560:

Thomas John Forbes. These names sound very posh, but I've been unable to place them in the baronial Forbes family of Scotland.

There may finally be a clue as to how General Thomas John Forbes fits into the Forbes family. The other day I saw this in snippet view on Google Books. It's from Debrett's Peerage:

"Grandson of late Arthur Frederick Colin Forbes, son of Capt John Villiers Forbes, 15th Bengal Inf. son of Gen Sir Thomas John Forbes, son of Col Charles Forbes, son of Hon Thomas Forbes, yst son of 2nd Earl".
http://books.google.ca/books?id=9w4MAQAAMAAJ&q=Arthur+Frederick+Colin+Forbes,+son+of+Capt+John+Villiers+Forbes&dq=Arthur+Frederick+Colin+Forbes,+son+of+Capt+John+Villiers+Forbes&hl=en&sa=X&ei=HdqYUpnKF8P3oATm24LYCg&ved=0CC4Q6AEwAA

It appears this is from the 1990 edition of Debretts p. 531, sub Granard.

Now, per 'Memoirs of the Earls of Granard' (1868), the 2nd Earl of Granard only had two legitimate sons, Arthur Lord Forbes & George Forbes the 3rd Earl. But it does mention Captain Thomas Forbes (1688-1782), an illegitimate son of the 2nd Earl. It mentions that this Captain Thomas in turn had a son who was a Major in the Army (pp. 80-81):
http://books.google.ca/books?id=1lEBAAAAQAAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false

I think it is this illegitmate-born Capt. Thomas Forbes whom Debrett's mistakenly calls "Hon Thomas Forbes, yst son of the 2nd Earl". And the son this Captain Forbes had who was a Major in the Army would be the "Col Charles Forbes" mentioned by Debrett's as the father of our General Thomas John Forbes.

Gen. Thomas John Forbes appears in The Peerage website, as father of Caroline Elizabeth Forbes (1819-1903), wife of Gen. Peregrine Henry Fellowes:
http://www.thepeerage.com/p57760.htm

This is the closest I've come by far to placing John Villiers Forbes, his father, and his son within the larger Forbes family. Leo van de Pas kindly checked his 1985 edition of Debrett's, but the collateral line quoted above doesn't appear under Granard. Nor does it appear in the 2008 edition of Debrett's.

If anyone has easy access to the 1990 edition of Debrett's and can check p. 531, sub Granard, and confirm that the line appears as quoted above, I would greatly appreciate it. My thought is that Debrett's erred in 1990 in making Thomas Forbes (the grandfather of Gen. Thomas John Forbes) into a legitimate son of the 2nd Earl of Granard. They then discovered they were in error, and eliminated the collateral line from their later editions.

Behind the scenes, Leo, José Verheecke, and Olivier Guionneau, have been doing a tremendous job researching Simon Poland's ancestry. This Forbes line, for example, has led to some unexpected French and German titled families. None of the lines so far have led back to Edward I (though Olivier did trace one back to Henry III), so they fall outside the scope of my database. But anyone interested can find them in Leo's Genealogics and the Roglo database, after their latest online updates.

Rev. Charles Thomas Moore was born 3 February 1847 at Appleby Hall, Leicestershire, christened 15 April 1847 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Appleby Magna, Leicestershire. He was Rector of Appleby 1877-1922, and died 21 July 1924 at Hill House, Ashby de la Zouche, Leicestershire. He married 7 January 1880 at All Saints Church, Kirkby Mallory, Leicestershire, Mabel Charlotte Byron.

Leo has Rev. Moore in his database, with no dates or parents, here:
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00307004&tree=LEO

All of the descents from Edward III for Mabel Byron have been posted, as has Rev. Moore's line of descent from Henry VII. That line is through Rev. Moore's father, George Moore of Appleby Hall (1811-1871). Through his mother, Isabel Clara Holden (born 1810 at Aston Hall, Aston-upon-Trent, Derbyshire, christened 28 October 1810 at All Saints Church, Aston-upon-Trent; married 8 January 1839 at All Saints Church, Aston-upon-Trent; died 17 January 1867 at Appleby Hall, Leicestershire, buried 23 January 1867 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Appleby Magna), who was the second wife of his father, Rev. Moore has a 17-generation line of descent from Henry IV.

Henry IV had a son:

2) Antigone of Lancaster, illegit. (b. c.1420) m. 1) Henry Gray, 2nd Count of Tancarville (1420-1450, descended from Edward I), and had

7) Edward Hanmer of Ebnal (d. 1604) m. 2) Jane Corbet (descended from Edward I), and had
8) Mary Hanmer (b. 1602) m. Richard Pope of Ebnal (1589-1636), and had
9) Roger Pope of Wolstaston (b. 1624) m. Margaret Mytton (descended from Edward I), and had
10) Roger Pope of Wolstaston (c.1644-1710) m. Mary Weld (d. 1669), and had
11) Roger Pope, Heir of Wolstaston (1668-1706) m. Elizabeth Bromwich (1663-1697), and had
12) Elizabeth Pope (1684-1735) m. William Whitmore of Apley Park (1682-1725), and had
13) Sir Thomas Whitmore of Apley Park (1711-1773) m. Anne Cope (d. 1775, descended from Edward I), and had
14) Anne Sophia Whitmore (d. 1809) m. Anthony Deane of Bath (1729-1811, descended from Edward III), and had
15) Rosamund Amelia Deane (1772-1820) m. Rev. Charles Holden [formerly Shuttleworth] of Aston Hall (1749-1821, descended from Edward III), and had

17) Rev. Charles Thomas Moore of Appleby (1847-1924), maternal grandfather of Australia's 11th Baron Byron, and ancestor of British actor Simon Poland

My final post to complete the 11th Baron Byron's royal lines, will be all of the remaining Edward III descents for Rev. Charles Moore.

Brad do you not have or did you overlook Simon Poland's E3 descent through Elizabeth Heneage the wife of Basil FitzHerbert ?

Let me know that you don't have it, and I'll spout it out.

Dear Will,

I've been entering the Barons Stafford in my database using the Burke's Peerage Stafford article. The Fitzherbert ancestry is at the very end of the article, so, no, I don't have it entered yet.

Brad I believe there is a descent behind Chichele-Plowden

I also find it interesting that Anthony Eden descends from this family, his grandmother Georgina was the daughter of Trever (1809-1899)

Rev. Charles Moore has more than double the lines of Descent from Edward III than his wife Mabel Byron. Since there are so many lines I've split them up into two posts. This first post will include all of Rev. Moore's descents from Edward III's grandson John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset, and the final post will be all of the remaining Edward III descents.

Rev. Moore's lines of descent from Henry VII of England, James IV of Scotland, and Henry IV of England have already been posted, those are not included here. Nor is the Rev. Moore's lines of descent from Edward III thru his ancestor Hon. Elizabeth Tracy. Rev. Moore is a descendant of Elizabeth through her second marriage. As Rev. Moore's wife Mabel Byron is also a descendant of Hon. Elizabeth Tracy, through her first marriage, all of Elizabeth's lines of descent from Edward III have already been posted previously in this thread, and won't be repeated here.

What is presented are 92 separate lines of descent from Edward III, as follows, with links to the most recent individual in Leo's database, for each line.

I have William Westropp in the family tree, you mention there is a descent from Edward I through Conyers and Sayer of Worsall. I also have them in my tree but can not find the link you mention back to Edward I. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sue,

I have Sayer, of Worsall, Yorkshire in my database also. I do not know the line through to William Westropp however.

I have not researched the family thoroughly and I may have the details incorrect but John Sayer, of Worsall, who married Frances Conyers, daughter of Sir George Conyers, of Sockburn, was the son of John Sayer, of Worsall and Dorothy Bulmer and he was the son of William Sayer, of Worsall and Margaret Fairfax.

It is via Margaret Fairfax that there is an Edward III. descent (and thus back to Edward I):

1. Edward III.
2. Sir John, Duke of Lancaster, Earl of Richmond, K.G. (1340-1399) = Katherine de Roet (-1403)
3. Lady Joane de Beaufort (1379-1441) = Sir Ralph de Nevill, Earl of Westmorland, K.G. (1364-1425/26)
4. Lady Eleanor Nevill (1403-1472) = Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland (1393-1455)
5. Henry Percy, 3rd Earl of Northumberland (1421-1461) = Eleanor de Poynings, 5th Baronss Poynings (about 1422-1484)
6. Lady Margaret Percy (about 1447-?) = Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorpe Hall, Yorkshire (about 1450-1487)
7. Anne Gascoigne (about 1474-1504) = Sir Thomas Fairfax, of Walton and Gilling Castle, Yorkshire (about 1475-1520)
8. Margaret Fairfax (-1565) = William Sayer, of Worsall (about 1503-1531)
9. John Sayer, of Worsall (about 1521-1584) - Dorothy Bulmer (-1574)
10. John Sayer, of Worsall, Yorkshire (1545-1635) = Frances Conyers (-1585)

I am sure someone shall correct me if I am in error.

Via Dorothy Bulmer there appears to be another Edward III. descent as well (via the Conyers).

Best regards,

Although I am surely in error as Brad Verity would have mentioned both Edward III. descents.

So corrections are most welcome.

Thanks for that information James. My William Westropp was born abt 1524. I do have Hugh Westropp born 1499 who married, abt 1522, Jane Sayer dau of John Sayer of Worsall on Tees. Perhaps she is a sister to the William Sayer you mention who married Margaret Fairfax??

Sue,

Apologies. There were two John Sayer's who married Conyers. The one I highlighted was a later one. Now I have determined where William Westropp fits, I have realised my mistake.

The one you are interested in is the John Sayer, of Worsall, Yorkshire who married Margery Conyers, daughter of William Conyers, of Thormanby and Elizabeth Wadisley. They were parents of William Sayer who married Margaret Fairfax as well as of Jane Sayer who married Hugh Westropp, of Cornborough. So yes, they were siblings as you inferred above.

The John Sayer who married Frances Conyers, daughter of Sir George Conyers, of Sockburn was the great grandson of the above John Sayer.

Brad Verity highlighted the Edward I. descent for William Westropp, of Cornborough in a recent post on SGM. He also made another recent post regarding the Smyth family which mentions the Sayer's.

Apologies about the confusion.
