Most of this is from an article in The New England historical and genealogical register, year 1912, pages 354-356, but I can add some more information in the earlier generations.

The will of Thomas Mede or Meede of Tenterden was made in 1526 (PCC). In it he mentions his wife Elwisse and three sons, Steven, Robert and John.

Stephen was a tanner, as is shown in this Common Pleas case, Trinity term 1527:

Kent. Thomas Harlakynden versus Richard Pellond, of Wodecherche juxta Apuldore, husbandman, and Stephen Mede, of Tenterden, tanner, for trespass breach of close at Wodechurche juxta Apuldore.

In his will made 1540 (probate 1541 Diocese of Canterbury), Stephen Mede mentions his wife Joan; sons John, James, and William; daughters Elizabeth and Alice; and his brother Robert. One of the witnesses was John Mede, probably his other brother.

According to the article cited above, James had a son, also named James, who was baptized in 1574. James the younger had several children who died young in the early 17th century. His daughter Sarah was baptized 29 November 1612. She married John Lewis and they sailed to New England in March 1634/5 and settled first in Scituate and then in Boston.
