Douglas does not mention any illegitimate children for
William the Conqueror. However, I've seen mentioned in
several (one could call them less academic) reviews that
William (d. 1114) holder of the honour of Peak was an
illegitimate son. Any evidence one way or another?

Apologies in advance if this question has been considered
earlier in the Discussion Group.

According to Givens-Wilson/Curteis in "The Royal Bastards of Medieval
England" William I was faithful to his wife, Matilda.
Alison Weir in "Britain's Royal Families The Complete Genealogy" lists no
illegitimate issue for William the Conqueror.

In an appedix to one of the volumes of the Complete Peerage, theres a
discussion of the Peverel family, and as I remember, it states that it
was in the Tudor period when the legend was started that Peverel was a
son of the Conqueror.
