Peter Bulkylegh (m) Nichola Brid (d)Thomas Brid
John Bulkylegh of Haughton (s) Peter (m) Audrey (d)
(h) John Titley of Woore.
Hugh Bulkylegh (s) John (m) Helen (d) Thomas Wilbraham
of Woodhey
The lack of a response is rather surprising because so
many individuals have requested Bulkylegh of Woore
data from me in the past.
Perhaps the following information may jog some
memories:
1321: Complaint by Abbot Vale Royal to commission for
king Robert Holland Justice Chester re assault on monk
John Lewis by the Winningtons, Leghtons, and Roger
Bulkylegh of Northwich.
1321: Another complaint by Abbot Vale Royal against
same individuals re murder of monk John Boddleworth -
attackers said to have played football with his head
(presumably without obtaining John's permission)
The hostile and unsociable activities of Peter
Bulkylegh as follows suggests that he was a "chip off
the olde block". Roger Bulkylegh was probably Peter
Bulkylegh's father or uncle.
1377: Peter Bulkylegh and Thomas Bulkylegh of Chedle,
Hugh Bisshop, Thomas de Bulkylegh, and others had a
feud with the Abbot and the Convent of Vale Royal, and
were bound over to keep the peace.
1381: Peter de Bulkylegh et alia charged with
assaulting Thomas de Stafford, his servants, and theft
at Lichfield Staffordshire.
1386: Peter de Bulkylegh obtained a general pardon for
the slaying of Roger Sparks of Chester.
1395 Recognizance Roll: Peter Bulkylegh paid 10 Marks
to Joan Sparks (wdw) Roger Sparks.
1396: James Burdet Knight and Sheriff Warwickshire
instructed to arrest Peter Bulkylegh et alia.
Currently there does not appear to be any evidence to
support Peter Bulkylegh's marriage and his
descendants. Peter was so busy beating up people he
probably had no time to have children!
However Roger Bulkylegh, probably Peter's brother, has
a line that is recorded connecting the Bulkyleghs of
Broxon with the Bulkyleghs of Woore:
(1) Roger Bulkylegh of Northwich.
(2) Roger Bulkylegh (brother of Peter)
(3) Robert Bulkylegh.
(4) Hugh Bulkylegh of Woore.
Perhaps Edward Bulkley of Odell and Peter Bulkley of
Odell descend from Roger Bulkylegh rather than from
the Peter Bulkylegh/Nichola Brid union.
The relationship and activities of both Roger
Bulkylegh and Peter Bulkylegh could be significant in
identifying descendants of the Woore and Odell lines.
Perhaps one should search for individuals that are
vindictive, lack compassion, and probably suffer from
narrow thinking as possible descendants.
Sincerely Yours,
Paul Bulkley

Your post made me laugh!
I am sorry I cannot add anything to this portion of your research, but
wish you luck in pursuing it. One of the benefits of the list is the
archiving, which means that - even if no-one has answers for you at the
moment - perhaps someone who can help will see it in a few weeks, or
months, and get in touch with you.

I'm not qualified to make any kind of logical assumptions
from the data I've gathered but I'll share with you the

Robert de BULKELEY 1.
Bulkeley Genealogy in England The Bulkeley surname can be
traced to the town of Bulkeley, Cheshire, some twelve miles
southeast of Chester and immediately south of the Bickerton
Hills. Approximately five miles north in the Bickerton Hills
is Beeston Castle, which affords a magnificent view of
Bulkeley country in all four directions. Southwest of the
town of Bulkeley on Bulkeley Hall Lane is a large manor
house called "Bulkeley Hall". Robert de Bulkileh was lord of
this manor in 1200. His son William received a quitclaim
from his two sisters in 1233 that provides solid evidence of
their ownership of the property at that time. The family
retained ownership of the manor for several generations (and
through several surname variations) until Peter de Bulkylegh
(b abt 1325), who held Haughton, Cheshire, in right of his
wife, Nichola le Brid, moved there with his family. It was
Peter’s son who left Cheshire for Woore, Shropshire, and
this is where grandson Hugh was born (abt 1405). For several
generations the family remained in Woore, and it was here
that Peter’s grandfather, Thomas, was born about 1515. He
later married Elizabeth Grosvenor (abt 1539) in Bellaport,
and they had five children. Elizabeth’s mother was Ann
Charlton, who was born about 1480 at Apley Castle,
Shropshire, and it is her ancestry that leads back to
royalty.
He had the following children:

I have sources on Bulkeley/Brid and Bulkeley/Titley of
Woore, but no evidence for Wilbraham.
Unfortunately, my notebooks are still in storage, so I
am unable to give specifics now.

Why do you not retrieve your records.
We can then exchange information.

Thank you for your contribution.
Regret that your data does not apply directly to the
Bulkley of Woore (1350-1550).
Best wishes,
I am sorry that my domestic arrangements do not
meet with your approval.
Since I lost my husband two years ago, very little of
my life has been to my satisfaction.
I have been working on the Bulkley families and its
several branches for the better part of 35 years now.
I was only attempting to give a heads-up that I did
have some information for you and that there was
eventual hope that I would be able to relay it to you.
Yours truly,
