Does anyone know of a source of information on the names of the members
of the order of Knights of the Garter? I am particularly interested in
the 14th and 15th century lists.

In "The Knights of England" Vol 1 (of 2) list all Knights
of the Garter starting 1348 and ending 1904.

There is a much cheaper source that was authored by Grace Holmes
(Archivist to the Dean and Canons of Windsor) published by Oxley & Sons
(Windsor) Ltd., 2-4 Victoria Street, Windsor for the Dean and Canons of
Windsor in 1984. Its title is as follows: The Order of the Garter: Its
Knights and Stall Plates 1348-1984. The preface is by Sir Colin Cole,
K.C.V.O., T.D., F.S.A. It's part of a series Historical Monographs
Relating to St. George's Chapel Windsor Castle, General Editor, The
Reverend Canon John A. White (Volume 16). This volume may be purchased at
St. George's Chapel, Windsor or ordered directly from the publisher. As I
recall, it cost me around $15.00 to $20.00 US.

As the other posts seem to imply the person inquiring has to purchase a source,
I list some that should be at libraries and can be checked free.

The Complete Peerage, by G. E. Cokayne, ed. Vicary Gibbs, v. 2, Appendix B (p.
527-596) gives a list of the Knights and Ladies associated with the Order of
the Garter from its creation until 1909 (838 knights). Another source would
be Shaw's _Knights of England. Beltz was author of Memorials of the Order of
the Garter and Sir Nicholas Harris wrote his History of Knighthood. Also, a
great many of the knights will be found in the Dictionary of National
Biography (if you know the name you're looking for).

Hope this helps.
