HELP!!!

I am trying to find the children of Ivo (Ives) Taillebois and Lucia of
Mercia.
I have found so many conflicting reports on the parentage of Lucia it is
mind boggling. Can anyone shed a little light on this mess?

I stem from the Ratcliff (Radclive, Radclyffe etc.) line from Lancashire
Eng. Several years ago a Ratcliff researcher established the following:

1. Aelfger MALET was born about 1000.
He had the following children:
+2 F i. Lucia MALET was born about 1025.

2. Lucia MALET was born about 1025 in France. Lucia married (1) Ivo de
TAILLEBOIS Baron of Kendal about 1040. Ivo was born 1020 in Anjou, or
Normandy, France.
They had the following children:
3F i. Lucia TAILBOIS was born about 1042 in Anjou, or Normandy, France.
+4M ii. Aelfred de TAILLEBOIS "The Englishman" was born 1045.
5M iii. Nicholas Fitz Gilbert TAILBOIS was born about 1047 in Anjou, or
Normandy, France.

4. Aelfred de TAILLEBOIS "The Englishman" was born 1045 in Anjou, or
Normandy, France.
He had the following children:
+6 M i. Gilbert De Frunesco de TAILLEBOIS was born 1070.

6. Gilbert De Frunesco de TAILLEBOIS was born 1070. Gilbert married (1)
Goditha about 1090. Goditha was born about 1072.
They had the following children:
+7M i. Nicholas FITZ GILBERT de Taillebois was born 1097/1100.

7. Nicholas FITZ GILBERT de Taillebois was born 1097/1100.
He had the following children:
8M i. Matthew RADECLIVE or Fitz Gilbert was born about 1122 in
Lancashire, Eng.
+9M ii. Henry de RADECLIVE or Radcliffe was born 1124/1126 in
Lancashire, Eng. He died before 1190.
10M iii. Simon RADECLIVE or Fitz Gilbert was born about 1128 in
Lancashire, Eng.

I have found other references that Lucia was the daughter of Aelfgar III
Earl of Mercia (who md. 1. Alversa Malet), son of Leofric III and Lady
Godiva, and Elfgifu Princess of Eng. (dau of Ethelred II "The Unready"
and Alfgifu or Aelflaed Queen of Eng). But now other sources say Lucia's
parentage is different.

Hope someone out there can clear away a little of the mud.
Thanks
Linnie

Aelfgar was not a Malet.

Your #2 and #3 are the same person, split into two.

As the name indicates, an 11th century Nicholas Fitz Gilbert would be
son of a man named Gilbert, not Ivo. This #5 is identical to #7.

I am not familiar with this information, but I know of no reason to
connect Radcliffe to Taillebois. This is likely invented. As best I
can remember, the only surviving descent from Lucia is through her third
husband, Ranulph of Chester.

Alfgifu's parentage is unknown. She has not been shown to be daughter
of Ethelred. That being said, it doesn't matter in this case, since
this is not Lucia's parentage anyhow. A quick summary of the current
solution can be found at:

http://www.linacre.ox.ac.uk/research/prosop/PRSPN2.stm

Quoting their summary statement, "A lot of ink has flowed on the
subject, but there can be no doubt that the 'mysterious' Countess Lucy
of Chester was William Malet's thrice-married granddaughter, the
daughter of Robert Malet's sister and Turold the Sheriff of Lincoln
(dead by 1079)."
