Bishop and Milbourne families

Some time ago I posted details of the 13 daughters and co-heirs of
Simon Milborne (c1435-1522) of Tillington Court &c, Herefordshire:

(a) Alice, married 1stly to Henry Myles (?"de Newcourt"), & 2ndly to
Thomas Baskerville;
(b) Elizabeth, married to 1stly to Thomas Mornington, & 2ndly to John
Whittington;
(c) Sybil, married 1stly to Richard Hackluyt & 2ndly to John Breynton;
(d) Anne, married to William Rudhall, sergeant-at-law
(e) Joyce, married to Thomas Hyett;
(f) Katherine, married to Thomas Barton;
(g) Blanch, married 1stly to James Whitney & 2ndly to Sir William
Herbert;
(h) Elinor, married to James More;
(i) Margaret, married to "Thomas Baron" of Burford [Visit. Hereford
1569, pp 90-91] or alternatively, "Richard Bishop" of Burford, Oxon,
o.s.p. [Harl. MS 1545], or "John Bishop" [Visitations of London & of
Hants 1686];
(j) Agnes, married to Thomas Walwyn;
(k) Jane, married to Sir Richard Cornwall;
(l) Johanna, o.s.p.
(m) Julianne, o.s.p.

Much confusion exists in the Visitations and other records as to who
the husband of Margaret Milborne was. I have now obtained the PCC will
of Richard Bishop of Burford [Prob 11/16, proved 10 October 1508] which
clarifies this, as the testator, then a widower, names his
father-in-law, Simon Milborne. He also makes it clear that he had only
two sons, Anthony the elder, and Simon. Presumably he had no other
close family, as he stipulates that should his two sons die without
issue, then his estate is to go to the church.

Anthony appears in the Visitation records as the elder brother of the
"John" Bishop who founded the family of Holway & South Warnborough; he
is alo named in a couple of PRO documents concerned with Simon
Milborne's estate as one of the heirs ("Anthony Bushoppe son of his
daughter Margaret" 19 Henry VIII, C43/2/22, and also C1/658/36, dated
1529-32).

Perhaps Simon Bishop, second son of Richard Bishop of Burford, was the
founder of the Holway family.

Thank you for your good post. I have a similar list of children for
Simon Milborne, Esquire, except I show that his daughter, Eleanor
Milborne, married John Moore (or More), of Dunclent, Worcestershire,
not James More as you have it. One reference for Eleanor Milborne's
marriage is the 1569 Visitation of Worcestershire:

"John Moore of Douklen. = Elianor 8 da. & coe-heire to Simon
Milborne." [Reference: Cooke & Mundy, Vis. of Worcester 1569 (H.S.P.
27) (1888): 53-56 (Foliot pedigree)].

Eleanor Milborne and her husband, John Moore, had three daughters:

1. Jane Moore (wife of James Dingley and Thomas Parker).

2. Margaret Moore (wife of William Stamford).

3. Eleanor Moore (wife of John Foliot).

confirmed in the PRO document I cited:

Alianor wife of John More; Agnes wife of Thomas Walewyn; Blanche widow
of William Herbert knight; Alice widow of Henry Myles; Jane wife of
Richard Cornwall knight; Griffin Barton, son of his daughter Katherine;
James Hyett, son of his daughter Joyce; and Anthony Bushoppe, son of
his daughter Margaret. Places: Tillington manor, Burghill manor,
Almeley manor, Wellington manor, Munsley manor, Howton manor, Co
Hereford.

The published version of the 1569 Visitation of Herefordshire (Harl.
Soc.?) calls him "John Moore of Bromsgrove Esq [of Douklyn in co. Worc.
Harl. 1545], sub Milborne.
