Dear Rosie, Chris, Doug, Leo, Ian, Ivor, et al.,
A significant resource has been noted on the PRO site, courtesy
of the East Riding of Yorkshire Archives and Records Service, which
should assist in resolving many issues with the pedigrees of the
Constable families (Flamborough and Halsham, at least).
One particular generation can now be resolved. Rosie had posted
a pedigree of the heirs and other relations of Magister Roger
Arundel last year [1], which gives in part:
1. William de Arundel fl 1175
2. William de Arundel d.s.p.
2. Mag. Roger de Arundel d.s.p.c.1210
2. Cecily de Arundel
+ Jordan Lenveise
. . . . . . .
2. Maud de Arundel
+ NN
3. Alice
3. Eufemia
+ Robert Constable of Flamborough d.bef 1208
4. William the Constable of Flamborough
+ Juliana had issue
Juliana is (now) identified in several documents extracted on
the PRO site as Juliana de Eyville (or Deiville), and further as
the mother of Sir Robert le Constable: the text for these documents
is given below [2]. Further, based on the known chronology and
onomastic evidence for the Constable and d'Eyville generations
during this period, Juliana (de Eyville/Deiville) le Constable can
be placed as a hitherto unknown daughter of Robert de Daiville of
Egmanton, co. Notts. (d. bef 2 Apr 1201) and his wife Juliana de
Montfort, daughter of Thurstan de Montfort of Beaudesert, co. Warwicks. A
pedigree follows, illustrating this descent.

2nd wife of Robert de Daiville

of same between Robert de Stuteville and Roger de Mowbray [of whom
it was subsequently held][4]
Rosie Bevan, citing Curia Regis Roll, vol. ix, p. 291 [dated 1220] :
' William de Cantelou as custodian of Piers [de Montfort] and
his sisters (not stated how many) petitioned the prior " del
Broc " for charters pertaining to the feoffment of Walter de
Montfort, to establish who his (Walter's) heirs were.
Several members of the family came forward claiming to be
his heirs. '[6]
One of these claimants was Juliana's son, John de Daiville
(called John de Ayvill in the C.R. Roll)[6],[7]
Spouse: Robert de Daiville, of Egmanton, Notts.

p. 135). '[5]
his maternity as indicated was originally based on (and now proven):
1) CP Vol. IV p. 131 note a (simply calls her 'Julian')[1]
2) Analysis and cites by Rosie Bevan, showing that the
holdings of Langford, co. Notts. of the maritagium
(modified) of Robert de Daiville's first wife were NOT
inherited by John de Daiville[4]
'...the text from Curia Regis Roll, vol. ix, p. 291 which establishes
that Julian was Juliana de Montfort, daughter of Thurstan de
Montfort by Juliana Murdac, daughter of Geoffrey Murdac. The
salient portion of the CR Roll record provided by Rosie states
[concerning the claims put forward in 1220 regarding the estate
of Walter de Montfort, son of Thurstan]:
' Et super hoc venit Johannes de Ayvill' et dicit
quod cartas illas de Waltero debet ipse habere et
non heres predicti Thurstani, quia Henricus de
Muntford avus predicti heredid Thurstani dedit
quandam terram predicto Waltero pro homagio suo
et idem Johannes est filius sororis ipsius Walteri '
To which Rosie has also kindly provided the English rendering:
And afterwards John D'Eiville came and said that
the charters of Walter [de Montfort] belonged to
him and not the heirs of the said Thurstan
because Henry de Montfort, the grandfather of the
said Thurstan's heirs, had given the land to
Walter for homage, and John was the son of the
