As a descendant of Samuel Pryor and Prudence Thornton, I'd delighted to simply have proof that Samuel really was the son of Robert Pryor and Betty Virginia Green. As far as I know, Robert Pryor's ancestry is completely unknown.

What wonderful information on Roberts. I have not seen any proof on

early Pryors in America. There is one bit if information I have found,

not proven, that lists a William PRYOR married to Margaret CLAYTON as
the
parents of the Robert who is supposed to be the progenator of our
large family
over here. The only PRIOR father of a Robert you list as William, I
list

the American Pryor families from the Hart E. Pryor manuscript ?
Several years of research here in the UK on the surname Prior/Pryor
etc.
suggest that this is far more likely than Flintshire.
The surname is practically non-existant in Flintshire whereas
Hertfordshire
is one of the main centers for the name in England. No one seems to be
able
to say where the story of a Flintshire origin comes from or provide
firm
evidence of a link.
There were some wealthy families in the Hitchin area
(Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border) in the early 1600's and later. It
would
seem that Robert came from a wealthy family given he owned land and
the
family married into prominent Virginian families.
There are a number of baptisms for Roberts listed on the IGI for
Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire in the period 1600-1670 which I list
below

families pre-1600.
Flintshire IGI (yes, it is in Wales NOT England ! ) only has 3 entries
for
the surname. One of these is for 1722, the other two after 1800.
Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire have hundreds of entries !
Can anyone give a definite source for the Flintshire information that
could
be followed up? I am sure that if Robert came from a landed family
here in
England that there will be documents on this family in local Record
Offices
that may be useful.
