You don't say of which date. However, originally Cornish, where they
were minor gentry; one (William i think) Borlase did himself a bit of
good by marrying one of the dimmer heiresses of the sharp lawyer, Sir
John Baldwin of Aylesbury, and John Borlase, the son, inherited half of
very considerable estates in Bucks in 1540s. However, although other
families with this start would have ended with a peerage, none of the
Borlases were tough enough. They inherited the large Baldwin estates in
the south of Bucks, with oddments in other areas, which they had to sell
off for money. In the end, their whole effort was concentrated round
Great Marlow, where they lived and they did prove benefactors to the
town - there is still a Borlase school, of some antiquity.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I was wondering if anyone had a
family tree for the Borlase family of Marlow?

Thanks
Paul
