+++ AR7, p 42 shows that Constance of Brittany who married Alan la Zouche
was the daughter of Alan IV, Duke of Brittany (& therefore the sister of
Conan III)
This is the connection you need to be certain of. The Visitation of Cheshire,
1580, [Harleian Society 18:131-2] does indicate that Robert Hyde married Jone
Davenport, and that they had a son named William, but William was one of eleven
children born before 1580. His eldest brother, another Robert, was father of
nine children born by 1580, inluding his heir Hamon, aged 17 in 1580, or born
about 1563.
If this William Hyde's nephew was born about 1563, it is unlikely he was the
William who died in Norwich, CT in 1681.
It seems that 95% of these claims fail at the identification of the immigrant
or their parents.

In fact my previous post is in error. The correct Zouche line is as
follows:
EUDES I, VISCOUNT of PORHOET (9)., M Anne, d. of Guiomark III, Count of
Leon. Died 1086. He had issue: Weis, p 42
GEOFFREY I, VISCOUNT of PORHOET (9)., M Hawise, d. of Alan IV, Duke of
Brittany, & Ermengarde, d. of Fulk IV, Count of Anjou (See BRITTANY). Died
1141. He had issue:
Weis, p 42
CP XII:2, p 930
BP 1999, p 3099
ALAN la ZOUCHE (9)., M Alice, d. of Philip de Belmeis, of Tong, Shrops. &
Ashby, Leics. & his wife Maud, d. of William le Meschin (See CHESTER). He
was first mentioned in England in 1172 when the Sheriff of Northamptonshire
answered for the scutage due from one knight's fees on his lands. Died
1190. He had issue: Weis, pp 43 & 117
CP XII:2, pp 930-1
The result is the same - the line shown by Ron Smith is broken

I have a number of gedcoms downloaded from www.ancestry.com.
A large one is No 13920 with WARBURTON lines and many others.
Below is a shortened version which I cannot document obviously.
Gen-Medieval has some excellent experts who will help if they can
up to about 1600.
I indicate with *** where there seems to be a missing Robert Hyde
generation in your data.
As indicated by others, the Calverley marriage and mother looks
impossible. This whole link may be guesswork.
Hester Hyde seems to be a sister to 'a' Samuel Hyde as below.
This source disagrees with your ancestry for Maud/Matilda
whose mother Sybil Corbet at least is uncertain.
Note the two distinct Ellen [Helein] m. Piers [Peter WARBURTON]
which look suspiciously alike, one wrong in my view.
HTH
My interest is in the WARBURTON lines from these, a branch in Ireland
possibly from John Warburton b 1459 of Arley, Cheshire
m. Jane Stanley, descent from about 1550-1800.
Jane Stanley's parents are a problem for me --any takers?
If anyone knows anything on these, I would appreciate it.
Any other corrections welcomed.

Thanks Paul, you were right. I have since found that I was missing
another William 1569-1639 (married to Ellen Stubbs)who was the son of
Robert (1543-1614) and the father of the Connecticut immigrant William
(1597-1681). This looks like it makes more sense.
Ron Smith
Thank you very much for your response Paul. Your well-taken point
caused me to look further than the information available on the LDS
Ancestral File, which surprisingly is not correct! More than a couple
of other sites showed that I was indeed missing a generation of Hydes
between Robert & Beatrice CALVERLY and the immigrant William who died
in 1681 in Connecticut, whose parents were William Hyde b.1569 Chesire,
Eng d.aft 1639 + Ellen STUBBS b.c.1573
Consequently, the line should look like this:
Robert HYDE b: 1522 Norbury, Cheshire, England d: 1571 Norbury,
Cheshire, England + Jane DAVENPORT b: 1525 Bramhall, Cheshire, England
d: Aft. 1566
Robert HYDE b: 1543 Denton, Lancashire, England d: 22 Mar 1613/14
Stockport, Chesire, England + Beatrice CALVERLY b: 1545 Calverley,
Yorkshire, England d: 21 Dec 1624 Stockport, Chesire, England
William HYDE b: 1569 Chesire, England d: aft 1639 + Ellen STUBBS b: abt
1573
William HYDE b: 1597 Stockport, Chesire, England d: 06 Jan 1680/81
Norwich, New London, CT + Hester TROTT b: Abt. 1609 London, England m:
Abt. 1630 Norwich, CT d: Bef. 1682 Saybrook, CT
Samuel HYDE b: 1636 Hartford, CT d: 12 Sep 1689 Franklin, CT + Jane LEE
b: 12 Sep 1640 Rusper, Sussex, England d: 21 Jan 1721/22 Lebanon, New
London, CT
Thomas HYDE b: 1672 Norwich, New London, CT d: 09 Apr 1755 Franklin,
New London, CT + Mary BACKUS b: 1672 Norwich, New London, CT d: 27
Mar 1752 Norwich, New London, CT
Mary HYDE b: 21 Feb 1696/97 Norwich, New London, CT d: 17 Apr 1783
Franklin, CT + John PEMBER b: 12 Apr 1696 Norwich, New London, CT d: 26
Jan 1782 Norwich, New London, CT
Thanks again for your help.

Once again, consider the 95% rule. What is the evidence that William Hyde
of New London is son of this William Hyde of Cheshire? Wills,
correspondence, etc.? If you don't already know (i.e., if your web
sources don't mention any), then this may be an example of the "name's the
same" phenom.
Nat Taylor
As Nat said, this is what you should focus on.
It is known that Robert Hyde of Norbury, b. ca. 1543, d. Norbury 22 March 1614,
m. Beatrix Calverley, bur. Stockport 21 Dec. 1624, had a younger son named
William.
William's eldest brother, Hamnet Hyde [Hamon?] was b. ca. 1565 and d. May 1643,
m. Prestbury 15 July 1583, Mary Warren, of Poynton, bur. Stockport 28 Mar.
1639. Hamnet had other younger brothers, Robert, Thomas, Urian and John.
This family was prominent gentry bearing arms. If your William Hyde of Norwich
and Saybrook were a member of this family, it would be odd he was not a
prominent gentleman, bearing arms, in New England records, and that the unusual
Cheshire/Lancashire given names like Urian and Hammon/Hamnet did not continue
in the naming patterns of his family, given that Hamnet was the male
representative in England.
So focus on the evidence across the ocean and on his parentage FIRST before
becoming too attached to the earlier ancestry given in AF. ; )

I'm out of line in carrying this on here since the part of your
postings I've an interest in, Ron/Barrie, is out of this forum's
period but -- since there have been some medieval claims attached and
Paul Reed's shown a helpful interest locally -- just to get it going
before our shambling off to throw darts in some more suitable
beerhall: has anyone any up-to-date data on the likelihood that
Esther/Hester Hyde (d. 13 Nov 1702, Norwich CT, VR) who m. John Post
(d. 27 Nov 1710, Norwich CT, VR) is a da. of either Ron's William
Hyde or his s. Samuel, and if so, which? Barrie's firm account would
seem to steer us, but what I'm hoping for is some detail, with
sources....
I note that C M C Hardie [NYPL: AZ n.c.1 + (Rudd)], which gives her
d. date as 13 Nov 1703, says she da of Samuel & Jane (Lee) Hyde.
Hoyt Post & R H Walworth (1905, I believe) say no - that she's sister
of Samuel, da of William Hyde. But Norwich VR, giving William
'Hide's' d., calls him "father of Hester the wife of John Post".
(I've a nasty hunch I've seen something in recent years in TAG or
NEHGSReg on Hyde/Post that should keep me from bothering you, but the
thing - if it exists - eludes me.)
Many thanks.
