> In 1404 "a" Sir John Stanley was invested as a Knight of the Garter.
Grace Holmes in her "The Order of the Garter" pub Windsor 1984 has his
brief entry as:
"Stanley, John 109 [garter number] Lord Lieutenant of Ireland
1399-1401, 1413. Nom [-inated to garter] c. 1405. Died 8 Jan 1413/14."
> Am I presuming wrongly this is Sir John Stanley, Constable of
> Caernarvon, Justice of Chester, son of Sir John Stanley, of Stanley
> and Isabel de Lathom?
The DNB, 1st edn, has a co-article for him and says he was later
constable of Windsor castle and is unclear whether Isabel Lathom was his
wife or his mother.
Ormerod's Cheshire, 3rd edition, Vol III, p. 577, unambiguosly has
Isabel Lathom as John KG's wife. It give John KG's parents as Sir
William Le Stanley and Alice, dau. of Sir Hamon de Mascy of Timperley.
(I can e-mail full copies of the DNB article and the Ormerod article and
pedigree.)
