Leo,

Couldn't find your address, so am posting to the list.

I found your Elizabeth! She was, indeed, the dtr. of Robert and
Elizabeth FitzAlan Goushill. She married, firstly, Sir Robert Wingfield
and then William Hardwyke.

Thoroton's Nottinghamshire under Thurgarton Hundred. See Henry Sutliff's
post for a more accurate citation.

Check also Plantagenet Ancestry of Seventeenth-Century Colonists, about Page
107 if I recall correctly. Covers m1 I believe.

In a copy of a 16th. C. family tree that I have, Sir Robert (spelt
Gonshill, not Goushill) Knt. of Heveringham Co. Notts. apparently had
2 daughters. His daughter Jean was co-heir, so presumably it was
Elizabeth as noted below.
Jean married Sir Thomas Stanley, 1st. Lord Stanley, who died 1458
Any comments, or additions?

Dear Warwick,
You are correct, this Jean or Joan is a sister of Elizabeth. The
remaining question is still whether Elizabeth became a widow in 1431
(according to Burke's Peerage) and then married William Hardwycke or, as
many other sources maintain, in 1451/2. It is the death of Elizabeth's first
husband, Sir Robert Wingfield, we need to know. Faris is pretty definite
with the much later date and this would cut the line to the Hardwick family.
Best wishes
