Albrecht of Bavaria, Count of Holland, Zeeland and Hainault, 1336-1404. The murder of his mistress, Aleid van Poelgeest, caused great disharmony to the point that Albrecht's son and heir had to flee.

Does anyone know more about Aledi van Poelgeest? Is she the same Aleid who was married to IJsbrand van Alkemade?

IJsbrand van Alkemade and Aleid van Poelgeest had a son, Floris, who married about 1393.
This could make Floris born about 1370 and his mother about 1350.

Aleid van Poelgeest, the mistress, was murdered in 1392, and so they could be the same person. Does anyone know?

Many thanks

No.

The mistress Aleid was a daughter of Jan van Poelgeest (1355-1390), +
1390, and his first wive Aleid van Beest. She had a brother Gerard (x
Claasje/ Wilhelma van Naaldwijk) and sister Clementia (x Floris van
Tol). Her father remarried with Mabelia van Oosterwijk. No kids from
this marriage.

Jan van Poelgeest was a son of Dirk II van Poelgeest who married in or
before 1323 Clementia van Zuylen-Nijeveld. Dirk II was first married
with an Ermgard. It is unsure from which marriage his eldest son
Gerard II van Poelgeest (1344-1382) came. Most likely from the first.
Gerard II married a Beatrix. Aleid van Poelgeest who married Ysbrand
van Alkemade was their daughter.

Dear Hans,

Something doesn't seem right. Dirk II van Poelgeest married (1) Ermgard (2)
in or before 1323 Clementia van Zuylen van Nijeveld. Dirk's eldest son,
Gerard II, born in 1344 cannot be by the first wife and Jan born in 1355
which is 32 years after his parent's married?
Is there a generation missing?
Many thanks for your message, much appreciated.

Leo,

(1355-1390) and (1344-1382) are the years that they are mentioned (as
adults) in the archives. The first year of mentioning is not the year
of birth, though + 1390 is certified dead. I have nosed through a
couple of articles so I have to mention that they contradict each
other on details. One author gives Gerard II a daughter Clementia. If
true than that would be suggestive in seeing Gerard II possibly als
the eldest son of Jan and Clementia. Other authors are quite certain
that Gerard II was a son of Ermgard. The available evidence yet is not
quite sufficient for a definite answer.
