Dear Annie, et al.,
I do not show a direct connection between the Lascelles family in England
and a location or holding in France; certainly safe to say there was one.
For discussion purposes, I am providing below the Lascelles line (such as
I have it) down to John fitz Ranulf, aka John de Lascelles. It also reflect
the connection to the Hiltons of Swine, part of an earlier thread. Should
anyone have any additional documentation, lineage, comment or criticism, it
would certainly be welcome.
Best regards,
John *

Keats Rohan gives two more generations of Lascelles prior to Picot d.
1178 and reports that the grandfather was a Domesday tenant of Count
Alan in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. Probably of Breton ancestry,
possibly from Ceaux, Manche, cant. Doucy. She also gives the wife of
Picot d. 1178 as Theophania, daughter of Roald Fitz Harscoit, and a
possible descent from Duke Eudo of Brittainy as below. Jay
1 Theophania daughter of Roald.1

I havent heard from you before, so I dont know how much you know about
things... but actually Keats-Rohan is pretty good about a lot of things on
both sides of the channel, & I doubt she actually did anything offhand...
Ive been sitting here wondering why I wrote that last post, &
for the life of me, cant explain it; it's not stuff I think, it's more my
feelings toward Taf than towards K-R, people dont have to take
their names from place-names so whether there's a Lascelle variant in
Bretagne or not has little to do with whether she may have found segments of
the line there, etc, and to boot, I was actually thinking about the
locations
of places called Gournay, not Lascelles... all in all, I'd say somebody
somewhere must've broken my codes & hijaked my brain or pulled my
puppet strings again... If I get my hands on them... get these darn strings
off, so I can dance my own tunes...
problem is, when I work seriously, everybody seems to ignore it,
so I get slaphappy & start goofing off, so then they say, "see? told you so"
or whatever... so just forget that post & pay more attention to the good
ones,
or I'll stop bothering to do them & spend all my time just goofing off &
making meaningless noise to get attention, if that's the only thing that
works ...
in which case, all you hot shot teachers arent doing a very good job & have
no reason to be surprised when kids riot or pull guns in your classrooms...
your own fault, you're not motivating them to feel rewarded by the search...
Why not?
PS please dont congratulate me for nonsense; I do enough valid work that
deserves mention, & prefer for you to take those occasions to recognise me,
rather than setting me up for poor jokes Ive already had too much of, &
others deserve...
But of course, never forget that degrees are only
sheepskin deep, & think for yourselves, if you know how...
Meanwhile, my excuses to myself, for posting offhand without thinking &
making myself feel strange...Keats-Rohan Im sure will survive as well...
Im personally not really following the Lascelles line, but proposed the
possibility of a Picardy origin, because the name occured here coincidently
& I had come up with some interesting local histories, mentioning it...
in connection with some landed gentry who might be related, although I
havent yet investigated them but it might be a useful lead
no skin off my back if nobody checks it ... It's maybe just way past my
bedtime...
Annie

Annie,
Ms. Keats-Rohan has lots more degrees than I do, but that doesn't mean she
knows anything about the Manche!!
Best,

well, I dont mind there not being a connection between the Lascelles &
