I notice that EYC X:75 mentions the fee of Roger de Trussebut d. bef 4 May
1216 who is thought to be son of Richard de Trussebut. Roger left three
daughters, two Mauds and a Constance. It is Constance who is of interest. In
1218-19 she and her husband Warin de Vescy (and sisters and spouses)were
summoned to warrant to the abbot of Kirkstead meadow and pasture in Hatton
given the abbey by Roger de Trussebut.

Margery de Vescy, daughter of a contemporary (or same) Warin de Vescy, was
wife of Gilbert d'Aton d. 1235 of West Ayton, Yorks.

There is a Constance de Vescy, wife of Simon Warde of Esholt who is also
contemporary.

Have checked a few other sources to see if anything ties these together and
do find a mention in CP that Constance de Vescy is mentioned and that a note
mentions the above EYC citation, but is only inferred or suggested, not
identified. There may be something in Feudal Aids III:170.

Has anyone found anything more definitive?

I do not have anything definitive, but here is the reconstruction I
have been working on. Note that the Trussbut relationships are very

Parts of this have been discussed recently in the thread "Payn fitz John".
At any rate, it doesn't seem likely that children of Eustace's second
marriage would have taken the surname "de Vesci", which belonged to his
first wife.

IN 1264, John de Vesci was the executor of the estate of Robert de
Veteriponte. In a plea relating to land in Westmoreland against John de
Baliol, the earl of Buchan, Alan de la Zouche who married Elena de Quincy,
and the countess of Derby, Robert de Veteriponte excused his absence as
plaintiff on the ground of infirmity the year previous.
May I ask how this John de Vesci may be related to this William FitzEustace
de Vesci.
Thank you,
Pat

Thanks very much for the replies to my query. I have a pending memorial
service tomorrow for a neighbor and friend of my parents (with about 20
family members coming here afterwards), my attention is focused elsewhere
until later in the week. Thanks for your help.

Hi Pat

I have very little info on the Vipont/Viteripont family. The Robert
you refer to is presumably Robert II de Vipont, LOrd of Westmoreland
who died 7 jun 1264
MC 5:8, Sanders, pps 103-104, CP V: 433-445., Banks, Baronies in Fee,
II: 78.

I don't have any knowledge of why a John de Vesci would be his
executor.
