Dear Scholars,

I’m concerned about the pace with which we might expect updates from our Anderson Cooper genealogist and that the project might turn into a 21st century version of _A Medieval Heritage: The Ancestry of Charles, II, King of England_. Thus, I’ve decided to proceed on my own.

The following information on Cooper’s ancestry appears in _The Ancestry of Emily Jane Angell, 1844-1910 …_ by Dean Crawford Smith, edited by Melinde Lutz Sanborn, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1992 (page 6):

6628] Thomas Angell, born say 1520’s, buried Peakirk, Northamptonshire
25 Dec 1581, married first the mother of his first child,
married second circa 1550’s

6629] Ann Harby, daughter of sister of John Harby of Glinton

“This family is seen in outline form in the Visitation of London, 1633, 1634 and 1635 and in the Bigland manuscript. No probate was found for this Thomas, but his children were careful to include each other in their respective wills. Although John, the eldest surviving son, was said to have been disinherited, there is no evidence to support this in the wills of his brothers.”

I would be very interested determining the identity (beyond what’s shown here) of Ann Harby. She and her father or brother don’t appear in the Harby of Adston pedigree in _The Visitation of Northamptonshire, 1681_ or in the Harby of Aldenham article in _A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Extinct and Dormant Baronetcies of England, Ireland and Scotland_ second edition. That makes sense since both sources cover the same people.

In addition to Anderson Cooper, Thomas Angell and Ann Harby are ancestors of (Robert) Erskine Childers (1870-1922) AND his son, Erskine Hamilton Childers
(1905-1974), President of Ireland, 1973-1974 (the son’s ancestors 4736 & 4737).

As a result of establishing this connection I’ve compiled an ancestor chart for (Robert) Erskine Childers which includes all of his great-grandparents, 13 great-great-grandparents and 20 great-great-great-grandparents with some lines beyond that. I don't plan to do anything further with it, but if anyone is interested (aside from those I’m aware of) I’d be pleased to send them.

I apologize for previous references I’ve made here to Mr. Cooper’s sexuality. It was an admittedly immature response to the Anderson Cooper genealogist who began his initial post on Cooper by mentioning it. I found that rather ironic since Cooper has said he’d prefer that people focus on his work (his genealogist not withstanding).

By the way, whoever runs Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show’s twitter is aware of Genealogics! One day last fall they tweeted a question about a show topic on “family you never knew you had” and I tweeted back a Genealogics link.

Cordially,
Marc

I'd imagine our resident "celebrity genealogist" would be interested
in your Erskine Childers ancestry chart, since it would give him
another author to add to his collection - when he needs a break from
"doing" Anderson Cooper. And there are a handful of Edward III
descents behind Erskine Childers.

Who wouldn't need a break after doing Anderson Cooper and dating Roger de Swynnerton (I'm sorry, scholars ... I just couldn't resist).
