Cortez/Pizarro Genealogy

Hi,

Found the book: CONQUEST: Montezuma, Cortez, and the Fall of Old Mexico
by Hugh Thomas. ISBN 0-671-51104-1 (pbk) Thomas lists the following as
"Cortez's Ladies"

LEONOR PIZARRO: an "Indiana" of Cuba. Later married to Juan de Salcedo.
Cortez had one daughter by her.

CATALINA "LA MARCAYDA": Cortes married her in Cuba in 1514. She died in
Mexico in 1522.

MARINA(MALINALI: Interpretess, by whom Cortes had a son, Martin, born in
1522. (Aztec name = "Tepi"

ELVIRA DE HERMOSILLA: later married Juan Diaz de Real, Later still Lope
de Acuna.

TECUICHPO, "Dona Isabel": daughter of Montezuma. Cortes had a child by
her.

"DONA ANA," "DONA INES": daughters of Montezuma, killed in the noche
triste.

"DONA FRANCISCA": duaghter of Cacama, killed in the noche triste.

"JUANA DE ZUNIGA, niece of the Duke of Bejar. Cortez married her in 1528
and had several children by her. Her son, Martin Cortez, was heir to his
father's estate.

Can these trees be disputed or verified? I read that most of the
"conquerors" seemed to have come from the same area of Spain. And as you can
see, many were related too. It is stated, in other books, that Cortes paid
the Pope to legitimize all his children. His family had a few children born
out of wedlock, so that must have been "normal" in his family?

Thanks so much for posting the Cortez & Pizarro information! I have been
trying to find the ancestry of Pedro Menendez, founder of St. Augustine. Do
you have any suggestions?
