Domesday Descendants names his wife simply as Isabel (p. 314). CP, XII/2, note f, suggests she may be a daughter of Hugh Wake and Joan de Stuteville, citing an article, "The Beauchamps, Barons of Bedford," in Beds. Hist. Rec. Soc., Publ., vol. i, p. 18. I have been unable to find this online, nor do I see any results in this group addressing this identification. It is possible my search abilities are at fault. Does anyone know if Isabel is in fact a Wake, or have access to the source material? Thanks! Polly

Following up on John Watson's information, the reference cited by Chamber and Fowler in the Beds Hist Record Soc, 'Harvey : Hundred of Willey', is in full Harvey, William Marsh, 'The History and Antiquities of the Hundred of Willey in the county of Bedford' (1872-8) which is available at the British Library as a digital edition at
http://access.bl.uk/item/viewer/ark:/81055/vdc_000000002070#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=41&xywh=-621%2C0%2C6079%2C3114
Unfortunately, the only information on the Beauchamps of Bedford appears to be a pedigree without sources on pages 8-9, and so doesn't take us any further.

Hi Polly,

Complete Peerage, vol. 12/2, 299, note (f), states that Hugh Wake (d. 1241) and his wife Joan de Stuteville (d. 1276) possibly had a daughter Isabel, who married Simon de Beauchamp of Bedford, citing "The Beauchamps, Barons of Bedford," in Beds. Hist. Rec. Soc., Publ., vol. i, 18. But please note that this Simon de Beauchamp died in 1256. He is not the same person as Simon de Beauchamp who died in 1207.

Regards,

John

Doh, John! [smacks head] An interesting skill set you have there, I see...called, I believe, "reading" and "thinking." Also, recognizing "dates." Wrong Simon I had. . .so I am at least a bit forwarder...thanks.
