ahh. romanian texts which I have perused, do use the variant Dumitru for
this individual, if they are not using the unaltered basic variant, i.e
Dimitrie
what support is there for ortographying 'dmitriu' ?

> Son of Sando and Safta Palladi

I think romanian orthography prefers to use -u as the ending of names rather
than that -o
clearly the name is intended to be the vary same. Sandu. which would come as
diminutive from Alexandru
Sandu would been born around or before 1700

> Son of Ivanul

hm. Ivanul.
-ul as ending is clearly the signal of diminutive. romanian for that name
basis os Ioan (Ion), so did they really use that russki -v- in
diminutives....
This is the progenitor of the elder of the two main branches of the Sturdza,
so I think his name was repeated among the family even centuries after his
death.
I think 'Ivanul', or Ioan, were born in the 1660s

> Son of Kiriak fl.1700

ah. if Kiriak Sturdza lived still in the year 1700, he mist have been pretty
elderly at the time. when I made estimations about his lifespan (such as,
when was his wife born, being daughter of that couple), I ended up with
estimates such as 1630, or before 1640, for Kiriac's birth.
so I think I'll simply say that Kiriak died after 1700 - it cannot be far
off

genealogist Sturdza

although I am yet a bit unsure about identification, I think that quite
likely,

the genealogist Sturdza (the one who in 1980s authored the book about
Constantinople and Romania nobles and imperials; and in 2004 about boyar
families of Moldavia and Valachia) actually is:

prince Mihai Sturdza (b 1934),
son of the Manu lady and prince Dimitrie Sturdza, heir of princely line,
himself elder son of princess Olga Mavrocordat, sculptor, and prince Mihai
Sturdza, heir of princely line, himself senior grandson of the reigning
prince, Io Mihai Sturdza, Domnitor of Moldavia
and that he is still living.

would anyone know for certain whether this identification be correct or not.

Yes, he was born on 17 September 1934. He and his sister Elena (the only
children of their father, Mavrocordat Dimitrie, who drowned in 1938) along
with their cousins (children of Gheorghe) established rights to an estate of
their grandfather Mihai Dimitrie, see an interview with him at
http://www.ziaruldeiasi.ro/local/interviu-cu-principele-mihai-sturdza~ni5pmc.

which one was the mother of that beyzades Dimitrie Sturdza who himself then
married Ecaterina Sturdza from the Barlad branch ???

http://genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00565774&tree=LEO

his father, the reigning prince, io Mihai Sturdza, domnitor of Moldavia, had
married twice.
firstly (m 1817; div 1822) 'Safta' Rosetti (b 1802; d 1882);
secondly (in 1835) princess Smaragda Vogoride.

(a dating 'est 1830' for Dimitrie's birth is obviously a not-good -being
ambiguous- compromise between the two marriages)

I understand that the said first marriage produced a son named Dimitrie

but then I have also an impression that from the second marriage there would
have been born son named Dimitrie - was there?

if there was, then the elder half-brother named Dimitrie (from the first
marriage) could actually have already deceased.

Mihai, Dimitrie's son and heir, married himself as late as in 1908. If not
consecutive generations of relatively late marriages (which is not
impossible), then it would chronologically make better fit, had Dimitrie
been born around 1840, instead of around 1822.

so, does anyone know certain enough. was the mother of Dimitrie that Rosetti
lady or that Vogoride lady ?

I received some indications that Dimitrie Sturdza, the father of that Safta
Sturdza who married boyar Stefan Sturdza,
would have been boyar Dimitrie 'Dumitrache' Sturdza, lord of Miclauseni and
Safta's mother be his wife (m 1785) heiress Elena Balsh.
i.e, number 2.1.1.2.2 in the main table.

however, this is not yet ascertained, it's rather some indication.
valid for a working hypothesis, I think.

does anyone actually know whether this identification and filiation be
correct or not ?
