Tony Ingham

It is my very sad task to inform the group that Tony (Anthony Gordon)
Ingham passed away in Melbourne on Friday February 3, following a fall
while out walking.

Tony was a contributor to sgm over a number of years and was always
generous in sharing information with others. His work on the Heron
family of Ford and Thornton corrected long standing errors in the
pedigree, and resulted in an article published in ‘Foundations’ in
2003. Those who corresponded with Tony will remember him
affectionately for his dry sense of humour, integrity and prodigious
tenacity as a researcher. His passing is a deep loss to his friends.

He was 74 and leaves behind a widow Anne, daughter Amanda, step sons
and their families.

Thanks, Rosie, for sharing this sad news. Tony was indeed a valued
contributor to the group, and his input was of use to me on a number
of occasions. He will be missed.

Very sad news. I corresponded a few years ago with Tony and Michael
Miller, tragic that both of them are now gone. Tony did much valuable
work and shared it without hesitation; he sought out hard-to-decipher
original documents, when many of us would have given up and looked for
something easier. A great character, too - I've just seen in one of
his emails the following words, about a car he'd been fixing: "the
wiring had been bodgied up by a real nong. That is the sole excuse I
can offer for being tardy with this reply."
