I am working on the Domville line from Margaret Domville (md Hatton)
back to the Domvilles of Oxton and Brunstath, Cheshire. After reviewing
postings in this list, I was able to go back quite a few generations.
However, once I get to the early 1500's and before, I hit problems.
Using Visitation of Cheshire 1580, and History of the county Palatine
and city of Chester, I have a line that goes thus:
Roger de Domville/Margaret Venables had Roger de Domville/unnamed wife,
who had John Domville/Maud Brereton. John and Maud had two sons, namely
John who married Cecily Mobberley, and Robert who married Agnes de
Legh. John and Robert were born about 1322 and 1324, or close to those
dates. Robert Domville and Agnes had sons John (S&H) and Robert (not
sure if he really existed) John apparentlely served in the wars against
Owen Glendower, and had a pension on or by 1398. He married a daughter
of John Savage, possibly Elizabeth. John and Elizabeth? had a son John
who married Joan Mascy after 1464, and they had John Domville who
married Elizabeth Radclyffe. The line goes on, but this is far enough.
The problem comes in with John Domville and Elizabeth? Savage. Robert,
father of John, was married by 1342, when he received the manor of
Lymme from Gilbert de Lymme, as he is called the husband of Agnes de
Legh. This puts the birth of John Domville somewhere between 1342 and
about 1365, when Robert would be about 40 years old. Robert could hav
children after 40, but it may be pushing the limit. John and Elizabeth?
had a son John that married Joan Mascy, but Joan aka Janet was listed
as unmarried in 1464 in proceedings after the death of her father Hamon
Mascy in 1462 or so. It seems that several generation are missing, but
the Visitation , which runs from John Domville/Maud Brereton down to
1580. gives the line as I have shown. Can anyone help fill in missing
generations? The earliest generations are validated by deeds and
papers, but from the 1350's to the 1450's are not well documented.
