While searching the web for genealogical information on the Demarest family,
I came across the following lines of descent from Louis VII of France and
William the Conqueror. I have no experience with medieval genealogy, so I
was hoping that someone here might be able help me verify this information
(as I have my doubts that it is accurate). Thank you, Bob

Your suspicions seem well founded. William I and Matilda of Flanders
did not have a daughter named Sylvia. Turton in _The Plantagenet
Ancestry_ p. 268 mentions that is was Carpentier who was the one who
placed Sylvia as daughter of the Conqueror, but he (Turton) omitted
her ancestry as he could find no corroborative documentation in any
books.

I do not have a specific source to refute the other descent, but
Generation 4 looks problematic to be daughter of Generation 3. Perhaps
someone with access to _Europäische Stammtafeln_ can comment with more
authority on that descent.

Best regards,

Flawless. Except that William had no daughter named Sylvia (a name quite
unknown in those parts in those days), and no child at all who married into
the Bournonville family.
