It's a little large to say we have *no* evidence on when the affair took place.
We *do* in fact know where Mary was as a child, and that she had gone to France for some time, and came back again.
It's not as if there's a 20 years window we can't fill.
DR is probably meaning to say, we don't have *exact* dates as to when they started, and ended their affair, only that it occurred.
We *do* however, have a "could not have started before xxx" and a "could not have continued beyond yyy" type date.

it most interesting.
She seems to favour Katherine Carey as the natural child of Henry
III
rather than her brother Henry. Towards the end of the book she says
It is
often said that Henry VIII's line died out with Elizabeth. None of

legitimate children left issue, and his acknowledged bastard,
ichmond, was
childless. But if Katherine Carey was Henry's daughter, as seems
ikely,
then his direct bloodline survives in numerous direct
escendants..."

I corresponded with Alison Weir before she published her book on Mary
oleyn. I specifically cornered her on the subject of Mary Boleyn's
ffair with King Henry VIII. Although I asked her more than once, she
as unable to produce any evidence which indicated when the affair
ith King Henry VIII took place. Nor did she have any credible
vidence that King Henry VIII was the father of either of her
hildren.
When you write something that isn't based on facts, it is no longer
istory. It is called "wishful thinking,"
