I've just finished reading Alison Weir's biography "Mary Boleyn" and found
it most interesting.

She seems to favour Katherine Carey as the natural child of Henry VIII
rather than her brother Henry. Towards the end of the book she says "It is
often said that Henry VIII's line died out with Elizabeth. None of his
legitimate children left issue, and his acknowledged bastard, Richmond, was
childless. But if Katherine Carey was Henry's daughter, as seems likely,
then his direct bloodline survives in numerous direct descendants..."

She then gives a list of a number of prominent descendants, including Sir
Winston Churchill, Lord Nelson, Charles Darwin, Sabine Baring-Gould, William
Cowper, Lady Antonia Fraser, J.H. Round, Vita Sackville--West, Thomas West,
the baron de la Warre after whom the US state of Delaware is named, Lady
Anne Somerset, Algernon Swinburne, Ralph Vaughan Williams, P.G. Wodehouse,
Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York,
Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales
(through the Earls Spencer), the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and
Queen Elizabeth II.

Not to mention Percy Bysshe Shelley.

I corresponded with Alison Weir before she published her book on Mary
Boleyn. I specifically cornered her on the subject of Mary Boleyn's
affair with King Henry VIII. Although I asked her more than once, she
was unable to produce any evidence which indicated when the affair
with King Henry VIII took place. Nor did she have any credible
evidence that King Henry VIII was the father of either of her
children.

When you write something that isn't based on facts, it is no longer
history. It is called "wishful thinking,"

It's a little large to say we have *no* evidence on when the affair took place.

We *do* in fact know where Mary was as a child, and that she had gone to France for some time, and came back again.
It's not as if there's a 20 years window we can't fill.

DR is probably meaning to say, we don't have *exact* dates as to when they started, and ended their affair, only that it occurred.
We *do* however, have a "could not have started before xxx" and a "could not have continued beyond yyy" type date.
