Complete Peerage 10 (1945): 822-824 (sub Richmond) has a good account
of the life of John de Montfort, K.G., Duke of Brittany, Earl of
Richmond (died 1399). Regarding his second marriage to Joan de Holand
(half-sister of King Richard II), it states the following:
"He m., 2ndly, in 1366, Joan, 1st da. of Thomas (de Holand), Earl of
Kent, by Joan, afterwards wife of Edward, Prince of Wales, and da. of
Edmund, 1st Earl of Kent, yst. s. of Edward I. She d.s.p. Nov. 1384,
in Nantes, and was bur. there in the abbey of Notre Dame de Prières.
Will dat. 25 Sep. 1384." END OF QUOTE.
The book, Ducal Brittany 1364–1399, by Michael Jones, published in
1970, has further information regarding the death of Joan de Holand:
pg. 99 "Joan Holland, who had returned to Brittany just over a year
before, drew up her will on 25 September 1384 and died a few weeks
later. [Footnote 2: Archives départementales de la Loire-Atlantique,
Nantes, E.24 (will). A memorial service was held for her at St.
Paul's, London, on 27 Nov. 1384 (E. Anstis, Order of the Garter, ii,
p. xii, and B.M. Add. MS. 24512, fol. 97r, wardrobe expenses)]." END
OF QUOTE
We see that Mr. Jones reports that a memorial service was held for
Joan de Holand in London on 27 Nov. 1384. From this information, I
believe we can state that Joan died in Brittany shortly before 27 Nov.
1384.
