I have John Darcy (or Darcey or d'Arcy) as the father of Ann (or Elizabeth),
wife of James Butler, 2nd Earl of Ormond, but no further information on
John's ancestry.
Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Georgia Fleming

[1.] Norman (I) DARCY, of Nocton ( - After 1115/1118)
[He was DOmesday lord of Nocton and other manors, and his posessions came to be
known as the Darcy fee.]

[2.] Robert DARCY, of Nocton ( - 1148/1160)
[His wife was named Alice.]

[3.] Thomas (I) DARCY, of Nocton ( - 1180)
[His wife was named Aline, and she died in 1183. It appears that this couple
also had a younger son, Hervey d'Arecy, born say 1175, who obtained lands at
Flixborough, North Conesby, etc., co. Lincoln, father of Sir WIlliam Darcy of
Flixborough. Hervey presented Ralph de Arsey to the church of FLixborough ca.
1221. Hervey's wife, Olive, m. (2) Sir John de Thornhill.]

[4.] Thomas (II) DARCY, of Nocton (About 1167 - 1206)
[His wife might be the widow Joan mentioned after his death.]

[5.] Norman (II) DARCY, of Nocton ( - 1254)
[His wife was named Agnes. They had another son, Sir Thomas Darcy.]

[6.] Sir Philip DARCY, of Nocton ( - Before 28 May 1264) & Isabel BERTRAM (
-After 15 Jun 1281)
[Their son Sir Thomas Darcy, living in 1268, died without issue in 1299. Sir
Philip's son and heir, Sir Norman Darcy(1236-1296) was father of Sir Philip
Darcy (1259-1333), created Lord Darcy in 1332. Another son of SIr Norman, Sir
Robert Darcy (d. 1342/3), married Joan, daughter of Thomas FitzEustace, and
died leaving a daughter and heir Margaret. Yet a third son of Sir Norman Darcy
was known as "lefrere," "l'uncle," or "del Parke" in records.]

[7.] Sir Roger DARCY, of Oldcotes & Styrrup, Notts ( - Before 12 May 1284) &
Isabel d' ATON

[8.] Sir John DARCY, L Darcy ( - 30 May 1347) & Joan de BURGH ( - 23 Apr 1359)
[As 1st Lord Darcy of Knaith, he was called "le cosyn" of "le neveu" to
distinguish him from Sir Norman's son John who was much older. He was MP in
1320.]

[9.] Elizabeth DARCY ( - 24 Mar 1389/90)

[Thought since I already had the above notes I might as well add them to what
Richard Borthwick had been kind enough to take the time to post.]

Young Raymond,
Try

http://www.dejanews.com/

try it without the / at the end if it doesn't work. I think there
is another and better place BUT I don't know where to find it either.
I am sure someone will come up with the goods.
Did you back up? And how long ago? How much did you loose?
If there is a line you think I can restore, let me know.
Best wishes

I just bought a ZIP drive and backed everything up, took a whole day, but it
was worth it. Cost was nominal for the drive, set up was easy, disks cost
quite a bit though...I am sorry for you as I know how it feels as it
happened to me a couple of years ago. I remember feeling very violated by
the event..
Karin ; )
