I just noticed this. There seems to be some debate as to whether
Margaret was daughter of Joan at all. Weis/Sheppard AR7 and MCS show
her as daughter of 2. Ralph Bassett and Hawise. (Compare the birthdates
given here for #3 and #4, and some kind of problem is evident.)

But, when you turn to CP, 2, p. 2 (BASSET of Drayton), it states Ralph
basset died 1342/3 and his wife Joan, whom he married in 1304, was the
daughter of John de Grey, Lord Grey of Wilton and Ruthin. Thus,
Margaret's parents would have been married six years after Margaret's own
marriage.
Not only does Joan have two different sets of parents, but Margaret, wife
of Edmund Stafford was not the daughter of Ralph Basset and Joan Grey,
rather she was his sister, being the daughter of Ralph Basset (died 1299)
and his wife Hawise.
Paget's Baronage, family 29, Basset of Drayton, correctly places Margaret
among the four children of Ralph Basset (died 1299) and even Burke's
Dormant and Extinct Peerages (p. 27) states the correct relationship.
This is one of those infrequent cases where CP completely fell flat on a
relationship. The correction for this will appear in the forthcoming
volume of corrections and additions to The Complete Peerage due out later
this year.
