Anybody worked on this family? I have the following:
[Except where stated, the following is based on Mike Gallafent's CD of
Published Wills of the County of Kent being a copy of an article of "Peche of
Lullingstone" from "Kent Archaeolgical Socity" (Vol XVI, 1886 pp 230-237).
The original article, which I do not have, extends before page 230 and after
p 237, but only these pages are reproduced by Gallafent.]
WILLIAM PECHE (?died Rochester Oct 1412); Sir; m Florence (-bur Little Chart,
M.I.); She m2[3?] 1418 JOHN DARELL (-bur Little Chart, M.I.) of Calehill,
Little Chart, Kent. [Stemmata Chicheleana has: Florence was dau of William
Chicheley (-1424) (brother of the bishop) by Beatrice d of William Barret;
She m2 JOHN BURTON and m3 JOHN DARREL of Calehill and Scotney, Kent]
I think the following John must be William's brother, but not certain.
John's mother was Joan (ipm Dartford May 1410) nee Hadley:
Sir JOHN PECHE; (born 22 Feb 1388/9-Will 1439, d 1439 or 40, ipm 1445\6 );
Patron of St. Botolph church, Lullingstone; Possibly at one time of Ashford;
In 1430 sheriff of Kent; m Mary (-bur St Mary Overey; Southwark; Stow, calls
her Dame Maud); From her arms,she was possibly nee Shelley
John's issue:
William, see below
[Hasted also has Elizabeth m William (-1448 bur Canterbury Cathedral) son of
Sir William Septvans (-1407 bur Canterbury Cathedral) of Milton, Kent; Their
d&h m Sir WILLIAM FOGGE] [ac: I think this daughter is Elizabeth Peche and m
JOHN (-1490) not Wm FOGGE]
John Peche's (1388/9-1439) son:
Sir WILLIAM PECHE (born in or shortly before 1425, died 9 Apr 1488, PCC Will
(12 Milles) 8 Apr 1488, MI St Botolph, Lullingstone where he is buried, The
MI is in error in showing his death as 1487; ipm Eynesford 24 Jul 1490); Of
Lullingstone manor and held Cokerherst manor (both held of the king); Owned
property in London and Surrey; Heir to his great aunt Katherine nee Hadley,
(died 28 March 1446) the wife of Sir William Wolf and widow of William
Wyngefeld; loyal to Hy VI and served in his wars with a company of soldiers
at his own charge but despite this he, was also favoured by Edward IV; In
1462 and 1463 sheriff of Kent; An executor of his Will was a John Pecche, who
was also granted probate, probably not his son who would have been too young;
m1 Jane (-<1480) possibly nee Clifford; m2 Oct 1476xOct 1481 Ann, d of JOHN
PROFETE or PROFFET widow of JOHN ELMBRYGGE (-8 Feb 1473/4 MI Merstham church)
of Merstham, Surrey. JOHN ELMBRYGGE had m1 Isabella (-7 Sep 1472) d of
NICHOLAS JAMYS, alderman of London by whom he had had 11s+3d. Ann as Dame
Anne Peche held Cranham/Croham, Croydon.
[Stemmata Chicheleana states that William m Beatrix d of John Chichele by
Margery Knolles, but this John Chichele is shown as the brother of the above
Florence Chichele and therefore presumably is an error]
Wm's issue by m1:
JOHN
Elizabeth; In the 1521 will of her br "I bequeath to my sister and her
children £20", also "my sister who is the natural mother of Percivall Harte".
Elizabeth m c1495 John Hart (-1507) leaving 4 issue (living in 1507)
including Percivall Hart; She m2 ___ (end of article)
The above son John:
Sir JOHN PECHE (born c1473, PCC Will 28 Apr 1521 (25 Maynwaring) "made at my

1521 made at City of Develyn (Dublin?) in Ir, pr at Knowll 2 Oct 1522; altar
tomb and MI at Lullingstone); s&h; Of Lullingstone and Eynsford manor; From
his youth attached to Court of Hy VII and in Nov 1494, aged 21, prominent in
the Royal Jousts at Westminster being awarded the prize of a golden ring set
with a ruby delivered to him by Margaret, the king's eldest dau.; In 1495
sheriff of Kent in which year he took 170 prisoners, Perkin Warbeck's

Sussex of lands and manors which Hy VIII inherited from Cecilia Duchess of
York and in July 1509 of all the Kent land which Hy VIII received from the
late Margaret Cts of Richmond; In May 1510 and Sep 1510 further grants made
to him; By June 1511 the manors of Dartford, Cobham, Combe and Chislehurst
were leased, with other properties, to him at nominal rents; In Jan 1510/1
app Lt of Risebank, nr Calais; Nevertheless despite all these grants, in May
1515 John had to borrow £600 from the king's treasury; Executors of hiw will
were his wife, Sir Henry Marney and John Whighwode (the last being his
Steward); Many bequests in his Will (including £20 to John Browne, merchant
of the staple); Residue to his wife for life, then to his nephew Percivall
Harte and his heirs; m (probably soon after 1500) Elizabeth (->1542) from her
arms she is possibly nee Scrope] [From Web page on Kent Wills: She is perhaps
the Dame Elizabeth Peche of Lullington whose will was proved 1544; PCC
Pynnyng 12] [from email post of 23 Aug 2002: Elizabeth may have been a d&ch
of Robert Scrope of Hambledon, Bucks 4th son of Henry Le Scrope 4th Lord
Scrope (of Bolton)] [but CP Vol XI p 544 note a) suggests Henry 4th Lord had
only 3 sons, although one was a Ralph, Rector of Hambleden]
Some other Peche's, any connections?
