One Elvira Menendez married to Alfonso V, King of Leon. She was dau.of
Menendo by Totadomna (Toda). Menendo (#1 below) had following patrilinear
ancestors:

1.Menendo (Count of Galicia; killed Oct 1008)

son of

2.Gonzalo (Count of Galicia; d.ca. 985); m.Ilduara Pelaez (dau.of Pelayo
Gonzalez (Count of Galicia) and Hermensenda Gutierrez, dau.of Hermenegildo
of Portugal Gutierrez)

son of

3.Garcia Diaz (d.ca. 930)

son of

4.Diego (d.ca. 900)

son of

5.Faralando; m.Flora Valdez (dau.of Valdo Diaz de Valdez)

son of

6.Roland the Paladin (d.ca. 777)

son of

7.Milon, Count of Angleria; m.Bertha of the FRANKS (dau.of Pepin III the
Short (Mayor of the Palace) and Bertrada II 'Broadfoot' (Bertha) of Laon,
dau.of Caribert (Count of Laon))

Does this relationship between Elvira Menendez and Roland (nephew of
Charlemagne) really exist? If so, what primary sources for it?

I think that #4 (Diego(d.ca. 900)) cannot be grandson of Roland the Paladin
(#6; d.ca. 777) - we have 123-year gap between their deaths.

regards,
aeg

partially incorrect. See J. Mattoso, _A Nobreza..., 1985, p. 121. For
Gonçalo Mendes, married to Ilduara Pais/Pelaez, see l.c. p. 142. Gonçalo
Mendes was the son of Hermenegildo Gonçalves and of Mumadomna Dias, and
paternal gson of Gonçalo Betotes. Mendo Gonçalves dec. 950.

Gonçalo Betotes was the son of Afonso `Betote' who repeopled the Minho
area in the late 9th century. There ends the established line.

I see no reason to doubt this ancestry given by Mattoso. Hope this helps
you.

Best,

chico

Could someone help me with one more source term?

It is noted as this: Dwann II, 304 Arch Camb 4 Ser VIII, 52, 53, Arch Camb,
5 Ser. k., VIII 258-9 Col Jones MS, Pedigree of College of Arms.

I would assume..[scarey] that it is actually 4 sources?:
1. Dwann II, 304
2. Arch Camb 4 Ser VIII, 52, 53
3. Arch Camb 5 Ser. k., VIII 258-9
4. Col Jones MS, Pedigree of College of Arms

Could some one tell me what the name of the actual book, article or Journal
they are?

Dwann II,
Arch Camb 4,
Col Jones MS, Pedigree of College Arms [or is this two sources?]

Again I would appreciate any and all hints so I may find these sources.

Actually Dwnn, which is Lewis Dwnn, Visitations of Wales, which is on
film through the Family History Center system.

This would be "Archaeologia Cambrensis", a journal specializing in
Welsh archaeology and history (mostly archaeology in recent years, but
many historical articles in the earlier years). At various times,
they would start the numbering of volumes over at volume number 1, so
the "Ser" tells which series of volumes (the fourth and fifth series
in these two cases). A large university library would be the best bet
to find these volumes. Also, the Family History Library has a lot of
them, but I'm not sure if they have the complete set.

As Chico pointed out, it breaks here - Gonzalo Menendez, father of
Menendo, was son of Hermengildo Gonzalez and his wife Muniadomna Diaz.
Likewise, there is an error in the information given for Ilduara. She
was daughter of Pelayo Gonzalez (brother of Hermengildo Gonzalez, her
husband's father) by his wife Hermesenda Gutierrez, but the latter was
daughter of Gutierre Menendez and Ilduara Eriz, Gutierre being son of
Hermengildo Gutierrez 'of Portugal'.

Elvira's AT would be:

1. Elvira Gonzalez
2. Menendo Gonzalez
3. Tutadomna
4. Gonzalo Menendez
5. Ilduara Peleaz
6. (unknown)
7. (unknown)
8. Hermengildo Gonzalez
9. Muniadomna Diaz
10. Pelayo Gonzalez
11. Hermesinda Gutierrez
12./14. Fruela Gutierrez
13./15. Sarracina
(note - these two are grandparents of 3. Tutadomna, but it is not known
whether it is through her father or mother, neither of whom has been
identified)
16. Gonzalo Betotez
17. Teresa Eriz
18. Diego Fernandez
19. Onega
20. Gonzalo Betote (see above #16)
21. Teresa Eriz (see above #17)
22. Gutierre Menendez
23. Ilduara Eriz
24./28. Gutierre Menendez (see above #22)
25./29. Ilduara Eriz (see above #23)
32. Alfonso Betote
34. Ero Fernandez
35. (either Adosinda or Elvira)
36. Fernando (also father of Ero #34)
44. Hermengildo Gutierrez
45. Hermesinda Gatonez
46. Ero Fernandez (see #34)
47. Adosinda
