Hello,

First I want to thank those of you that provided help and information on
my Felton and Somerville queries. It was greatly appreciated.

If anyone has worked on the Stratton or Loudham families of Suffolk and
could shed some light on the situation (particularly in the area of
primary documentation) I would appreciate it. The proven identities of
the wives of most of my line of Stratton men have simply not been found
yet, and I am not yet satisfied as to the connection between Augustine de
Stratton (#3 below) and Edmund de Stratton (#4) as well as the existence
of Walter de Stratton (#2) and his connection to the Loudham family.
Below I have outlined the line as given in various sources (most notably
/A Book of Strattons/), which is followed by summaries of the various
primary documents which prove the connections from generations [4] through
[9]. There are also a couple of documents which indicate an acquaintance
between some Stratton(s) and Loudhams in the relevant time period.

?[1] ____ de Stratton: married Isabel (de) Loudham, daughter and heiress
of Sir William (de) Loudham.

?[2] Walter de Stratton: died about 1392; inherited manor of Kirkton alias
Shotley, Suffolk, from Sir William (de) Loudham; married ____.

[3] Augustine de Stratton, esq.: of Kirkton, Suffolk; living 1436;
married ____.

[4] Edmund de Stratton, esq.: of Shotley, Levington, and Thorkalton,
Suffolk; died 11 Oct 1476; married Margaret ___; children Augustine
(clerk), George, and John.

[5] George Stratton, esq.: of Kir(k)ton and Thurkelton, Suffolk; died
1498; married Elizabeth ___; son George (and maybe a daughter, Elizabeth).

[6] George Stratton, gent.: of Kirkton alias Shotley; born about 1490;
died about 1547; married ____ (his marriage had been granted to Robert
S(o)uthwell, Esq.); children John, Anthony, Robert, Margaret, Philip, and
Katherine.

[7] John Stratton, gent.: of Kirkton and Thurkelton; died 16 Dec 1560
(date qualified in /A Stratton Collection/); married Cicily Felton
(daughter of Thomas and Cicily Felton); children Thomas, Mary, and
Elizabeth.

[8] Thomas Stratton, gent.: of Kirkton alias Shotley and Thurkelton;
born c1546; died 29 May 1596 (date qualified in /A Stratton Collection/);
married Dorothy ___; children John, Benjamin, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, and
Sarah.

[9] John Stratton, gent.: of Kirkton Hall and Thurkelton; born c1581; died
c1627; married Ann ___; children John, William, Anthony, Ann, Elizabeth,
Marie, and Dorothy.

Any information on the spouses and questionable generations would be very
helpful. Anyway, here are transcriptions of the relevant documents:

**NOTE - According to /A Book of Strattons/ (p. 48), quoting Davys
/Suffolk Collections/, the manor of Kirkton alias Shotley came into the
Stratton family by the marriage of Isabel Loudham, daughter and heir of
Sir William Loudham (died 1376), to the father (unnamed) of Walter de
Stratton, who, in turn was the father of Augustine de Stratton, first
noted below. In light of this, the association of this William de
Stratton with the Loudham family is interesting.**
