I believe that at least the first two volumes, along with all three volumes of the earlier edition, are available online at either Google Books or the Internet Archive. But I'm using a copy published on CD-ROM about 10 years ago by the Family History Society of Cheshire, so I don't have the URLs available. (I think the earlier edition, but not the Helsby edition, is also available online via the FHL.)

All three volumes of George Ormerod's original edition (1819) of 'History of the County Palatine and City of Chester' are available online through Internet Archive.

Volume 1:

Volume 2:
http://archive.org/stream/historyofcountyp02orme#page/n7/mode/2up

Volume 3:
http://archive.org/stream/historyofcountyp03orme#page/n11/mode/2up

Only the 1st of the 3 volumes of the 1882 Second Edition, edited by Thomas Helsby, is available online, through Google Books:

As Helsby made extensive revisions to the original, it's the 1882 editions that should be consulted first. If anyone ever comes across the second & third volumes of Helsby's 1882 'Chester' online, please let us know - it will be a big help.

Thanks & Cheers, -----Brad

The 2nd volume of the Helsby edition of Ormerod's Cheshire was available (with vol. 1) via Google Books as recently as a month ago - because I downloaded it then, as a backup to my CD copy. Unfortunately I didn't note the URL at the time and I can't now locate it. The vagaries of Google Books....

It appears that the genealogies in the Helsby edition may have been incorporated into the FHL's Welsh Medieval Database - at least according to this note in the FHL catalog:

Brad & John,

Thank you for posting this link ... I don't always have the luxury (time) to browse through links posted here as much as I'd like to (nor the need, or storage space to download everything).

In browsing and checking only one specific family of interest to me, it's very enlightening to note what appears here in the Trafford pedigree (page 589) that's missing from Page 227 of Ruvigny's Exeter volume. While Ruvigny does include family members who dsp. which wasn't always his practice, there are two marriages among children of Richard Leigh Trafford and Eliza Frances Tarleton missed by Ruvigny, (3d on page Rev William Trafford, m. Katherine Stoker and 6d Richard Wylme Trafford, m. Harriet Menge, both of whom are stated to have had issue not listed in the pedigree ... back to ancestry.com to fill in those folks).

I'd be interested in the re-appearance of volume 2 (on google books). The Welsh Medieval Database makes me nervous.

Cordially,
Marc

Here is the URL for Volume 2 of the 2nd edition (Google Books). I haven't been able to find Volume 3.

Interesting. I have an original copy of the second edition of the three volumes, second edition revised by Thomas Helsby. Condition is fine. They're old so no 'as new' . The spine has some looseness and a dealer has previously penciled in the front of one that the text is complete but most of the plates are missing. Anyone interested in making an offer?

They are in London and could be in Wembley Park, Woodford, Leytonstone or possibly SW1.
