Dear Matt,
Interesting. Sir Robert Mortimer of Attleborough and wife
Margery did have a younger son Constantine Mortimer Esq. There was a
Constantine Mortimer Esq living in 1443 which to me at least indicates he left
a son of the same name and so may have left others. The NEHGR ran an
article in their 1962 voume (115, I think) pp 14-15 which details the descent of
Mortimer of Martley from Roger Mortimer of Chirk. Apparently He had a son
Sir Roger Mortimer at Martley (died 1402) leaving issue Sir John
Mortimer who died sine prole (without issue) 1420 and was succeeded by his
brother Sir Hugh Mortimer who left a son Sir John Mortimer who died in 1504.
Apparently the Wrothe John Mortimer was an esquire rather than a knight.
Sincerely,
James W Cummings
