This marriage is asserted without evidence on several websites...if Roger died in 1287/88, and Walter has children supposedly born in 1290 (Stephen) and 1302 (John)...it would be possible, but Margaret might have been much older than Walter...if she and Roger have a daughter (Elizabeth m. Ralph Basset) born in 1270...? My wonderful sources are wikipedia and stirnet...Anybody have an idea? Thanks!

We don't know what year Ralph Basset was born, not what year Elizabeth was born.

Her father Roger was heir and "aged 26" in 1276 and died Apr 1288 (as I have it at any rate)
Meanwhile her mother's parents
Richard de /Braose/ of Stainten Manor, and of Akenham 1271-; Knt
and
Alice le /Rus/ of Bramley, co Suff (moeity which she exchanged 1271)

were married 1260/1265

The idea that Stephen was born In 1290 has no evidence whatsoever.
He was a minor from 1306 to 1310
That is ALL we know.

I see that someone has put in an enormous swath of nonsense years into these articles in Wikipedia.

I have gone through a few stripping this back out, and remaindering back to what we actually know about birthyears and marriage years and what we don;t

Thank you, Will, for making the needed adjustments to those Wikipedia pages...someone put a lot of work into those early Devereux writeups, but I know that birth dates are often guesstimates that can't be relied on...it's good to take them out...still, I wonder if the rest of the information there seems trustworthy? Lots of sources were used but I am not knowledgeable enough to judge how reliable they are and I would really like your (and others of course!) opinions...also, the main question remains....did Roger Colville's widow marry Walter Devereux? For that, those Wiki pages seem silent...thanks again.
