Hi this is my first post to this site,

I am searching for WHITTALL's and I have been told that they all started with a RICHARD de WITHUL of Whittle le Woods in Lancashire,a knight of the Norman Conquest.
I wondered if SKS can give me information about Richard.

That seems exceptionally unlikely. There is no companion of the
Conqueror known by this name; and I have not seen a record of anyone
of this name before the 13th century. There are some persons referred
to as Whitehill in the 3Henry Fine rolls (http://
www.finerollshenry3.org.uk/home.html)
