Dear Leo, Ian, et al.,
Earlier today I noted a post by Paul Reed from 1999 which provided a
'missing' link between the Kymes of Sotby, co. Lincs. and the de Clare
Earls of Hertford. This also assisted in defining the descent of the
Percys of Wharrum Percy, Yorks. from the Kyme family.
Below is a pedigree giving the descent from Rohese de Clare, wife
(2ndly) of Robert 'the sewer' to the Kymes and the Percys of Wharrum
Percy. This provides some further ancestry for Prince William and many
others via Kyme, Umfraville, de Boroughdon and Tailboys. In addition,
should someone have further details concerning Sir Walter de Heslarton
(heir of the Percys of Wharrum Percy, see below) there may be some
descents of interest there as well.
Cheers,
John *

I want to add a little here that you don't have Philip de Kyme dead by
1323 was the son of William de Kyme by his wife Lucy de Roos. William
de Kyme was the son of Philip de Kyme by his wife Agnes dau of William
Waley.
See CP vol 7 page 352 footnote G for the Lucy being a Roos.
Hope this Helps

Thanks for that note. I'd not added any more details re: the de
Kyme family to my database as yet, beyond what was given in the last
post. When next I have access to CP VII, I will obtain further
extracts.
Given the chronology of the family, the only possible Lucy de
Ro[o]s who could be the wife of William de Kyme (d. 1259) and mother of
Philip de Kyme would be a daughter of Sir William de Ros of Helmsley
(d. ca. 1264) and his wife Lucy, daughter of Piers fitz Herbert of
Blaen Llyfni. Philip de Kyme was a minor at his father's death in 1259:
he could then have been born anytime between 1239 and 1259, but most
likely ca. 1250 or so. His mother we might then expect to be born
anywhere between say 1214 and 1240. I see most online sources give her
as a daughter of Sir William de Ros of Ingmanthorpe and Eustache
'FitzHugh', but their daughter Lucy was the wife of Sir Robert de
Plumpton [cf. YAS XCI:72]. It is apparent that Lucy de Ros, wife of
William de Kyme, would have been a sister, not daughter, of that Sir
William.
Cheers,
John
