Recently a thread included information on the Bellingham family of Burnishead and Bellingham.

As I was looking into that, I notice a disconnected "Sir Robert Bellingham of Burnishead" who is called the brother of that Margaret Bellingham who married Christopher Curwen 3 Aug 1492 (date of contract)

On chronological grounds solely, I identify this Sir Robert with that one of this name who d.s.p., son of Roger Bellingham made a Knight Banneret 1487; who was son of Henry Bellingham made a Knight Banneret 1460; who himself was first son of Robert Bellingham of Burnishead by his wife Elizabeth Tunstall

Any comments appreciated

You have the correct male-line ancestry for Sir Robert Bellingham who was the brother of Margaret, wife of Sir Christopher Curwen. But he certainly did not die sp. Among others, I believe he is ancestral to both Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Check it out in Genealogics.

What is your basis for saying that he died sp?

This Sir Robert died without a male heir but left 5 daughters.

O'Hart is a source which is inconsistent in terms of reliability, and in this case he's wrong. Check the Bellingham pedigree in Foster's edition of the 1615 visitations of Cumberland and Westmorland, available via the Internet Archive.

He is there said to have been disinherited by his father, but leaving five daughters.

That could explain the issue, replacing "d.s.p." with "d.s.p.m. and disinherited"

One of these daughters was rather well known as it turns out, and fills in a missing mother in my database, and gives us a chronology of sorts.

Elizabeth Bellingham was educated with the future queen Catharine Parr at Kendal Castle. When Catharine was made queen in 1543, she sent for Elizabeth to be in charge of her household staff.

Elizabeth married Cuthburt Hutton of Hutton John and they had a son who died young and three daughters who were co-heiresses. One of these daughters Catharine, married Edmund Dudley the eldest son of Richard Dudley of Yeanwith and his wife Dorothy Sandford

I believe there were four daughters, not five: Katherine, Elizabeth, Dorothy, and Thomasin.
