Bermudo I of Asturias

I have seen sources which offer three different fathers of Bermudo
(Vermundo) I, king of Asturias/Leon 788-792:
1 - Fruela son of Pedro Duke of Cantabria
2 - Alfonso I of Leon
3 - Aurelio son of Alfonso I
Does anyone have good authority for which (if any) is correct?

Also: Fruela son of Alfonso I (not the son of Pedro) is said to have
been "murdered by his brother." Does anyone know which brother?
And Vimarano son of Alfonso I is also said to have been murdered. Does
anyone know by whom?

2 and 3 are both wrong, and there is no support for either. Alfonso had
only three well documented sons, Fruela I, Vimarano, and Mauregato.
Aurelio was son of Fruela, son of Pedro, and hence nephew of Alfonso.
Now, as to Vermudo, certain late traditions make him son of Vimarano,
but this is without foundation. Material from the time of Alfonso III
make son of Fruela, the brother of King Alfonso, and this has been
assumed to be Alfonso I, making him a brother of Aurelio. Recently it
has been suggested that it was in fact Alfonso II, and hence he would be
grandson of Fruela I, and great-grandson of Alfonso I. This
reconstruction does present some problems and I would like to see it
discussed in detail before I am completely willing to accept it.
