I would be very grateful if somebody could provide some help with this extract from the Curia Regis rolls John 8-10.

Leic'.-Gervasius filius Willelmi pro se et Rogero Norenssi
optulit se iiij. die versus Robertum de Ros : et ipse non venit
vel se essoniavit; et positus fuit per plegios, scilicet Walterum
Parcarium et Ailnoth filium Wolketel, et postea per meliores
plegios, scilicet Robertum filium Botilde et Willelmum filium
Turkilli; et debuerunt habuisse eum in octabis sancte Trinitatis ;
et tunc essoniavit se quod fuit coram rege et habuit diem per
essoniatorem suum in octabis sancti Johannis Baptiste; et

de Berverlaco senescallus Roberti de Ros cepit in manum pro

My latin is virtually non-existant but my understanding of the above is that a John de Beverley who is Seneschal
to Robert de Ros is acting on behalf of Robert and offers his fee of Kelk in pledge. Can anyone confirm this
interpretation and also suggest whether this Robert de Ros is "Furfan" or another Robert from the same period.
George Poulson "History of the Seignory of Holderness" suggests that a John de Beverley had a son Reyner
and a daughter Agnes de Kelk. I have also seen this assertion elsewhere. Agnes de Kelk appears a number of times
(styled domina Agneti de Kelch) in documents of the mid thirteenth century so the chronology might support this
John de Beverley being a progenitor of the Kelk line.
