FWIW, Clay's edition of Dugdale's 1664-5 visitations of Yorkshire has
a pedigree of the particular Palmes family of which Sir Francis of
Ashwell, Rutland, was a member. Among the children of Sir Francis
listed there (not necessarily complete) is a daughter Mary (with no
spouse listed), but no Jane. Not very helpful, but the other sources
cited in this thread suggest that perhaps the visitation (or Clay's
editing of it) missed or confused at least one daughter and overlooked
the spouses of the daughters.

Here's the answer.
"William Moulsworth & Jane Palmes" were married 18 December 1613
at Pilton, Rutland:

William was bapt. at Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire, 25 Jan. 1588/9,
son of Anthony Molesworth (image available on Ancestry.com).

No wills have been found for Anthony or his son, in the local court in
Northamptonshire, or the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.

Besides being ancestral to Diana Spencer and actress Olivia de Havilland,
this Molesworth family is also ancestral to actress Judi Dench, as follows:

Judi Dench is a descendant of this Edward and Leticia:

They are the same as this couple:

The Bolton family pedigree is in column 2 here:

Edward and Leticia are also mentioned here:

Mary Palmes, sister of Jane, was married to James Clarke on
20 June 1614, at Ashwell, Rutland (her surname is incorrectly
transcribed as Palmer):

Good find. This was speculated about in our Charles Chambers article in TAG, 2011 or 2012. I think the Clarke-Palmes marriage is shown in the 1634 Worcester Visitation. Another Molesworth descendant is the new Duchess of Edinburgh, nee Sopie Rhys-Jones, although I'm not sure if that descent includes the Palmeses.

The Clarke-Palmes connection is in the Hereford, not Worcs., Visitation. They lived in Hereford after their marriage.

The Duchess of Edinburgh's line of descent from Molesworth (see _RD900_, 2nd ed., 2:462, 1067-68).

Robert Molesworth, 1st Viscount Molesworth = Letitia Coote

Hon. Edward Molesworth = Mary Renouard

John Molesworth = Frances Hill

John Edward Nassau Molesworth = Harriet Mackinnon

Lawrence Teesdale Molesworth, of Texas for the 1900 census; returned to England = Anne Maria Caroline Wallace Bournes

Margaret Patricia Newall Molesworth = Theophilus Rhys Jones

Christopher Bournes Rhys Jones = Mary O'Sullivan

Sophie Helen Rhys Jones = Prince Eddie

Richard Evans' book on the ancestry of Diana shows Robert, 1st Viscount Molesworth, as a posthumous son of Robert Molesworth (d. 1656), merchant of Dublin, by Judith Bysse, who later remarried Sir William Tichbourne. Robert, d. 1656, is shown as a son of William Molesworth of Fotheringhay, by "Mary" Palmes (... who we now know to be actually "Jane" Palmes).
