Floris II 'the Fat', Count of Holland 1091-1121, died 2 March 1121,
son of Dirk V and Othelhildis; married, in 1113, Geertruid/Petronella
de Lorraine, and they are the parents of Dirk VI, Floris, Simon
and Hadewig.

To end the skirmishes with the bishopric of Utrecht, which he had
inherited from his father, Floris II acknowledged the Bishop of
Utrecht to be his overlord while retaining the rule of his county.

In 1101 the title 'Count of Holland' is used for the first time.
In 1133, his widow founded the Abbey of Rijnsburg. She was regent for
their son, Dirk VI, during his minority. Through the support of
Emperor Lothar, Geertruid's half-brother, Rijnland was added to the
county of Holland.
