Floris III, Count of Holland 1157-1190, born circa 1140, died 1 August 1190
in Antiochia, son of Dirk VI and Sophia von Rheineck; in 1162 he married
Aleida of Scotland and they became the parents of eleven children.

In 1161 he made peace with the West-Friesians. In a struggle over
Zeeland he became imprisoned in Flanders in 1167. In 1176 he supported
Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa in the battle of Legnano, for which he
received an imperial toll-post at Geervliet. In 1180 he restrained
the West-Friesians and participated, in 1189, in the third crusade
which brought him to Antiochia where he died.
