O.K. David, here's my first attempt.......

GODFREY de BRUINE Count of Eu = HAWISE
natural son of RICHARD I Duke
of Normandy
has:

GILBERT de BRUINE Count of Bruine = GUNNORA
b. Normandy d. murdered 1040
has:

1.RICHARD b. 1035 of Brionne, Normandy = ROHESE GIFFARD
Ancestor of the House of CLARE dau of WALTER GIFFARD II

2.ELISE CRISPIN

3.BALDWIN de BRIONIS Count Meulan = ALBREDA
1st Baron Okehampton, Lord de la dau of RICHARD surnamed GOZ
Sap Nehau. Obtained from Wm the Count of Avranche
Conq. for service the Barony of
Okehampton, custody of the Co. of
Devon and the gov't of the Castle
of Exeter in fee.
has:

1.RICHARD de ABRINCIS surnamed = ADELIZA
de REVIERS or REDVERS dau & co heiress of WILLIAM
(father's successor) d.1137 FITZ-OSBORNE Earl of Hereford

Richard de REIVERS is said to have been
created Earl of Devon by King Henry I and
to have had a grant of the third penny. The only authorities for this
statement are two monastic chronicles ane there is good reason to doubt any
creation. There is no record of this Richard ever having called himself
Earl or his wife styling herself Countess upon widowhood. (C.P. iv 310
refuses any creation, observing that he was practically landless. R.D.P. ii
seems to hold there was a creation but this belief rests entirely on the
credibility of the chroniclers. According to Burke, he resigned the Barony
of Okehampton, the Sheriffalty of Devon and custody of the castle in favor
of his nephew ROBERT de ABRINCIS, and was created Earl of Devon by K. Henry
I, with a grant of the Isle of Wight. He resided chiefly at Exeter and was
generally called Earl of Exeter (I do not find him being called Earl of Exeter).

ch: 1. BALDWIN de REVIERS (his successor)

Who, upon the resignation of his Uncle, RICHARD de REVIERS,
obtained a grant of the Barony of Okehampton, the office of
hereditary Sheriff of Devon and the Gov't of Exeter Castle.
He left an only daughter and heiress:

MAUD de ABRINCIS = 1)------DEINCOURT/d'EYNCOURT

4. REGINALD de COURTENAY

MAUD = 2) ROBERT FITZ-EDITH natural son of King Henry I

1. BALDWIN de REVIERS = LUCIA BALUN
d. 4 June 1155
(son & successor of dau of DRU BALUN
RICHARD de ABRINCIS
surnamed de REVIERS/REDVERS)

BALDWIN, upon the demise of King Henry I, supported the Empress Matilda
against Stephen in 1135. He seized the Castle of Exeter and held it for some
time. Besieged by Stephen, he was obliged to surrender the castle and all
his other possessions. He was allowed to go free and he and his family were
driven from the Isle of Wight into exile and took refuge in Anjou. He
returned to England in the Autumn of 1139 and, seizing the Castle Corfe,
held it against Stephen. in the year 1141 the Empress created him Earl of
Devon (Oderic iv 196 says creation 1141, Round in Geoffrey of Mandeville p.
271 says creation before June 1141). Burke says that, like his father,
generally styled Earl of Exeter from residing in that city.

ch: 1. RICHARD de REVIERS = DIONYSIA/DENISE
3rd Earl Devon, one of the daus & co-heirs of
Sheriff of Devon REYNOLD Earl of Cornwall
1155-1157. d. Apr 1162

RICHARD received the third penny payments of Devon from 1155 to 1162. He
died Apr 1162 leaving his son and heir a minor.

ch: 1. BALDWIN de REVIERS
4th Earl Devon
d.s.p. May 1188

2. RICHARD de REVIERS
5th Earl Devon
d.s.p. in or before 1193

BALDWIN de REVIERS 4th Earl Devon appears to have been invested with the
earldom in 1186 or before (C.P. iv 313, Pipe Roll entries). He died without
issue in May 1188 and was succeeded by his brother and heir RICHARD.

RICHARD de REVIERS 5th EARL Devon died without issue in or before 1193,
being succeeded by his Uncle WILLIAM, called de VERNON.

2. WILLIAM de REVIERS surnamed VERNON
(6th Earl Devon)

3. MAUD = RALPH AVENILL/AVENAL

WILLIAM de VERNON = MABEL de MELLENT
(de REVIERS) 6th Earl Devon dau of ROBERT Earl of Mellent
d. 14 Sept 1217

Earl WILLIAM de VERNON (de REVIERS) was the third but only surviving son of
BALDWIN de REVIERS the 2nd (or 1st authentic) Earl of Devon. He was present
at the first (Ellis), second (Burke) coronation of King Richard in 1189,
being one of the four Earls to bear the canopy. (Burke says he was then
styled "Earl of the Isle of Wight"). He appears to have steadily adhered to
King John for in the 18th of his reign he provided for the security of Earl
WILLIAM's property against Louis of France, which, from his advanced age, he
was unable to defend himself. He died in Sept 1217 being predeceased by his
son and heir apparent BALDWIN, who had died in Sept 1216 and who, although
only 16 years old, had already married and begotten a son, BALDWIN, his
heir. So, William was succeeded by his grandson.

Feudal Baron of Okehampton. Son and successor of Sir
REGINALD de COURTENAY and HAWISE d'EYENCOURT

had: 1. HUGH de COURTENAY = ALINORE DESPENCER
d. 28 Feb 1291 dau of HUGH le
3rd Baron Okehampton DESPENCER

**The successor to the
estates of REVIERS and
the person in whom the
Earldom of Devon was
revived. d.1377

WILLIAM died d.s.p.

3. HAWISE = JOHN de NEVIL

BALDWIN de VERNON = AMICIA de CLARE
(de REVIERS) 7th Earl Devon dau of GILBERT de CLARE
d. 15 Feb 1245 Earl of Gloucester
"in the flower of his youth"

Earl BALDWIN, grandson of Earl WILLIAM de VERNON, was invested with the
earldom by King Henry III at Winchester on 25 Dec 1239. In the 11th Henry
III, GILBERT de CLARE, Earl of Gloucester and Hertford paid a fine of 2,000
marks to the King for permission to marry his eldest daughter to this young
nobleman. Whereupon all his demense lands, which were then valued at L200
per annum were placed under the guardianship of the Earl of Gloucester until
he should reach maturity. In the 24th of the same reign, the King, keeping
his Christmas at Winchester, at the instance of Richard Earl of Cornwall,
under whose tuition Baldwin then was, girded BALDWIN with the sword of
Knighthood; and investing him with the Earldom of the Isle of Wight,
bestowed upon him AMICIA, the daughter of the said Earl of Gloucester in
marriage.
He was in the Holy Land with the Earl of Cornwall in 1240 and with the King
in Gascony in 1242. He married AMICIA de CLARE in 1226. He died 15 Feb
1245 being succeeded by his son and heir BALDWIN.

2. MARGARET de VERNON a nun at Lacock

3. ISABEL de VERNON = WILLIAM de FORTIBUS
succeeded her brother last Count of Aumale
d. 1293 and Lord of Holderness
d. 1260

BALDWIN de VERNON = Burke says - AVIS de SAVOY
8th Earl Devon dau of THOMAS Comte de SAVOY
d. 1262 Ellis says - MARGARET of Flanders
first cousin of the
Queen
had: JOHN de VERNON
died in infancy

BALDWIN de VERNON 8th Earl was committed to the tuition of Peter of
Savoy, Uncle of Queen Eleanore. He did homage and had livery of his
father's lands on 29 Jan 1257. He died in France in 1262 having been
poisoned with the Earl of Gloucester and others at the table of Peter de
Savoy. With his Lordship the male line of the ancient and eminent House of
REVIERS/REDVERS expired, but its honors devolved upon his heir, his sister
ISABEL, widow of WILLIAM de FORTIBUS.

ISABEL de REVIERS surnamed VERNON had three sons, all of whom died in
infancy and two daughters:

1. ANNE/AMICE de FORTIBUS - died childhood

2. AVELINE dw FORTIBUS = 1) INGRAM de PERCY
died d.s.p. in the
lifetime of her
mother = 2) EDMUND PLANTAGENET

3. JOHN died childhood

4. THOMAS died childhood

5. WILLIAM died childhood

ISABEL styled herself Countess of Aumale and Devon and Lady of the Isle of
Wight, had livery of her brother's lands on 18 Aug 1263. (R.D.P. II 159;
C.P. iv 322, just before her death she sold the Isle of Wight to the King
for 6,000 Mks. Her heir disputed the sale-which was believed (perhaps
mistakenly) to have been worked through trickery-but the King's Court upheld
the transfer aas genuine. Earlier in the reign the King attempted to buy
the whole Devon feif but after a long period of discussion withdrew his
offer. Had the Crown taken over, it is doubtful if the COURTENAY succession
to a bare title only would have been allowed. This transaction is reviewed
in Powicke, King Henry III, II.709-11). She had five children of whom JOHN,
THOMAS, WILLIAM and AMICE died in their childhood. Th fifth child, AVELINE,
married EDMUND Earl of Lancaster, but died without issue. Countess ISABEL
died on 10 Nov 1293 with no surviving issue. At her death her heir-at-law
was found to be HUGH de COURTENAY, the grandson of MARY de VERNON, only
daughter of WILLIAM de REVIERS surnamed de VERNON.

HUGH de COURTENAY had succeeded his father HUGH in the lands of
Okehampton on 28 Feb 1292 and his cousin ISABEL on 10 Nov 1293.

David Downunder- I'm sure there are errors and I hope if so you or someone
will tell me. I'm no scholar, just a simple antenna driver who loves
genealogy with a brand new computer I'm still learning and into which NONE
of my data has been entered. I don't know if I'll ever get it in there.
Bizillions of papers. God!
I'm going fishin', the Halibut are waiting. See you later.

This derivation of Reviers is faulty. Baldwin had no male descendants
beyond the first generation, and all of his property passed to the
descendants of his daughters.
