Thanks for that link. In return, here's a link from the 'late'
John Mure of Rowallan (d. 1513) as far back as I've got it. I do
not show Sir Adam Mure (#16 below) as being certainly linked, but
he is allegedly the brother of Elizabeth Mure, 1st wife of Robert
II of Scotland.
I reviewed this information a while back with Andrew B. W.
MacEwen, who noted re: Sir Andrew Stuart, 1st of Avondale, that
the marriage of his daughter to Mure of Rowallan was dealt with
erroneously by subsequent writers (incl. Scots Peerage). As I note
below, Andrew B. W. MacEwen observed that the entail of his lands
only meant that Lord Avondale entailed his lands on his nephew -
evidently, he wished to have his lands continue in the Stewart
family and not pass to another; therefore, statements re: his
having a daughter (incl. a legitimate one, as in the records
published by Sir William Mure of Rowallan) are subject to proof
but should not to be dismissed.
I have indicated Genealogics ID #'s where appropriate to
facilitate your review. And a note to Ian: this will provide
further ancestry for Prince William.
Cheers,
John *

The Mure of Rowallan Tree (1597) states,
" Johne muire mareit elizabeth steuard dochtir to ye lorde

~ Note: Duncan Stewart[5] errors in placing Sir Andrew Stuart, Lord
Avondale and his brother Walter Stewart of Morphie as sons
of Sir James Stewart (they were sons of Sir Walter Stewart,
Master of Fife as given in Scots Peerage)
~ several sources (incl. Scots Peerage) indicate that, since Andrew
Stewart, Lord Avondale entailed his lands on his nephew Alexander
Stewart by a charter dated 4 Jan 1485/6 [CP XII/1:272, note (l),
cites Reg. Mag. Sig. 1424-1513, no. 1632], he therefore had no
surviving issue, and therefore Elizabeth must have been his niece,
and daughter of Walter Stewart of Morphie.
Andrew B. W. MacEwen has observed that this entail only
means that Lord Avondale entailed his lands on his nephew -
presumably, he wished to have his lands continue in the Stewart
family and not pass to another; therefore, his having a daughter
(incl. a legitimate one) is not to be so dismissed. The statement
in Mure should be verified if possible, but is not incorrect
on its face.[6]
