According to the The Visitation of Bedfordshire, page 50, Katherine Grey, married to Sir Thomas Rotheram, son of Sir John Rotheram and Alice Beckett, was the daughter of Anthony Grey, Lord of Ruthyn. In the process of investigating the matter further by doing a google search, I discovered the following:

1. GMG - Alleged Daughter of Sir Anthony Grey
Full Title: The Alleged Daughter of Sir Anthony Grey
Author(s): R Ian Jack, MA, PhD (Jack, R Ian, MA, PhD)
Series Volume: 14
Series Number: 2
Pages: 56-59
Publication Date: Jun 1962
Source Type: Article
Periodical: Genealogists' Magazine (GMG)
Language: English (Engl)
Keywords: Grey, Kent, Rotheram, Ruthin

Web Site: http://fmg.ac/MGR/Sources/S-00000785.htm

2. Catherine GREY
Born: ABT 1475, Wilton, Herefordshire, England
Father: John GREY (8° B. Grey of Wilton / 9° B. Grey)
Mother: Anne GREY
Married: Thomas ROTHERAM ABT 1501

Web Site: http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/GREY2.htm#Catherine%20GREY1

I do not have access to the article in Genealogists' Magazine to be able to examine its contents regarding whether Katherine Grey was a daughter of Lord Anthony Grey of Ruthyn or not but the tudorplace web site along with the title of the article "Alleged Daughter of Sir Anthony Grey" have caused me to question whether The Visitation of Bedfordshire is correct or not. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,

Chuck Owens

All visitations have errors. Some pedigrees are more erroneous than
others, some visitations are more erroneous than others.

The thing to do is to ask yourself what happened when the visit
occurred?

The herald advertised in advance the places where he would be and when,
usually some inn, and went and sat there while the nearby people came
along on horseback to see him. Sometimes these people had some papers
with them, frequently, I believe, a family pedigree. The herald would
have asked a few questions and (a clerk might have) copied this out into
the master work and then asked the armiger to sign the record.

Ask yourself how accurate this was likely to be for ancestors and
relations that the armiger had never met.

Then ask yourself how many of the printed Visitations are from the
documents the armigers signed. Very few, as until very recently they
were not allowed to use the originals in the College of Arms.
