[HHK] WILLIAM de BALIOL le Scot He reportedly
changed his name to Scot following the contest between king
Ed I and WILLIAM's br JOHN said to be ancestor of the
Scott's of Scotts Hall
[vis] John father of William which
William is perhaps the same as:
[HHK] WILLIAM SCOTT (-1350
bur Braborne Ch); Of Bradborne; Kt marshal of Eng

Of this last HHK and [BPK] give;

Ham manors both Warehorne parish, Kent; m2 Isabel [vis
named Elizabeth and only m] d of VINCENT HERBERT alias
FINCH (she m2 Sir GERVAS CLIFTON)

Sir John; Michael; Thomas; Margaret and Joan
From HHK and [BPK] give for this Sir John;
JOHN (-1485 [BPK bur 17 Oct]); Sir; Of Scotts Hall; Inht

Marshall of Calais; [BPK m Agnes d&h of WILLIAM BEAUFITZ of
the Grange, Gillingham]
[vis] gives his issue as
Sir William m Sibilla d of Sir Thomas Lewknor; Margaret and
Isabel
Of the first HHK gives:
WILLIAM SCOTT; Sir; In Temp Hy VII & VIII Ld warden of
cinque ports and lt. [BPK Constable] of Dover castle;
Sheriff of Kent 1490/1, 1501/2 & 1516/7; Rebuilt Scotts
Hall; m Sybilla d of Sir THOMAS [FPA Sir JOHN] LEWKNOR [FPA
of Goring and West Dean, Sussex] [There is no Lewknor/Scott
marriage in the Lewknor tree in Sussex Records series]
BPK gives his brother as Thomas Scott alias Rotherhan, who
was archbishop of York [in 1480-1500]. Infopedia quoting
from the concise Oxford DNB calls him Thomas Rotherham,
otherwise known as Scott and gives his dates as 1423-1500,
which d.o.b. seems a little early for this generation of
Scotts.
CP Vol X p 668 (g) gives the dau Isabel Scott as the wife
of Sir Edward Poynings. Burkes extinct peerage names her
as Elizabeth Scott. Sir Edward Poynings dates are
1459-1521.
[vis] gives the issue of Sir William as
Edward m Alice d of Sir Thomas Fogg, sergeant porter [of
Calais]; Catherine; John of Scotts Hall m Ann d&h of
Reginald Pimpe of Nettlestead; Anne m Edward Broughton and
Elizabeth.
Of Sir John Scott:
JOHN SCOTT: Sir (FPA -<1534); [HHK Of Scotts Hall, Smeeth;
Held Aldington manor, Smeeth in right of his wife]; [FPA
sheriff of Kent; m 1528 Anne or Amy (<1485-1530x40) d&h of
REGINALD PIMPE of Pympe's Court, Nettlested by Elizabeth,
to whom she was h, said to be d&h of Sir JOHN PASHLEY of
Smeeth, and g-d of Sir WILLIAM PYMPE] [HHK they were
ancestors of the FRANCIS TALBOT-SCOTT's]
FPA my be wrong in the date of this m (1528). There was a
message to this ng giving the dob of his son as 1513. FPA
also gives the date of m of Sir John Scott's grand son
Charles as 1537.
and of Edward:
EDWARD; [HHK of the Moat, Sussex; In right of his wife held
a moiety of Ham manor, Kent; m Alice d&ch of Sir THOMAS
FOGGE; sergeant porter of Calais by Eleanor Browne; She m2
Sir ROBERT OXENBRIDGE of Winchelsea, Sussex who bought the
other moiety of Ham from Sir THOMAS MOYLE] [vis Edward
by Alice left William who m a d of Ld Windsor]
Alice Fogge's sister and co-heir Anne also m a Scott who is
presumably connected to this family viz;
HHK
WILLIAM SCOTT (-sp) (br of REGINALD) who held Great
Mongeham manor with Fogges court, and a moiety of
Heppington manor, Nackington parish, Kent in right of his
wife; The moietys of Heppington were sold in 1558 and 1561
to THOMAS HALES of Thanington; m Anne d&ch of Sir THOMAS
FOGGE, sergeant porter of Calais by Eleanor Browne; She m2
HENRY ISHAM
Perhaps this brother is the Sir Reginald below, but that
would give the two Fogge sisters m into different
Scott generations.
[vis] gives the issue of John Scott and Anne Pympe as:
a) Sir Reginald m1 Maria Turk m2 Emeline Kempe;
b) Mildred m John Diggs [HHK of Barnham and Yorkes Court s

The date of m 1537, is probably wrong, FPA gives the date
of m of his g-p as 1528, which may also be wrong. The
correct date is probably a little before 1567, the d.o.b.
of their son, or perhaps this Charles is from a different
generation.
