VCH Berks 4:371 gives this picture. Reynold de C held lands in Sutton
116/61. He was granted the manor by king Henry II 1175/84 and died about
1191. His younger son Robert (I) received the manor on payment of 300 marks
to the crown 'saving the right of the heirs of his brother William when
they have age.' He held the manor until 1208 when it passed to his nephew,
Robert (II) who d.1242 and thereafter remained with Robert (II)'s heirs
(i.e. the lords of Okehampton).
