The seigneurs de Torcy were another branch of this
Estouteville line, origin circa 1200.
Jean III was the last sire d'Estouteville in this line.
His only child ,Adrienne, inherited and brought the
title to Francois de Bourbon-Vendome and his progeny.

Note that this was an illegitimate branch of the Valois-Orleans family.

Longueville became extinct with him in 1694. Estouteville and Neufchatel passed
to his sister Marie, wife of Charles-Ame de Savoie, last duc de Nemours; at her
death in 1707, Neufchatel was claimed by a lot of people: claimants on the
Longueville side (the duchess of Lesdiguieres, the duc de Villeroy, the comte de
Goyon-Matignon, the prince de Carignan), claims from heirs to the Chalons family
who were the overlords of Neufchatel (the marquis de Nesle, the comte de
Barbansoj-Duprat, the marquis d'Alegre). Also, the prince de Conti claimed to
be the heir by virtue of Jean-Louis's testament. In the end, the Estates of
Neufchatel ruled in favor of the king of Prussia as heir of the Nassau-Orange
family (itself claiming to be heir of the Chalons family). It was briefly held
by Marechal Berthier under Napoleon as a principality. Estouteville passed to
Jacques de Goyon-Matignon, comte de Thorigny (grandson of Leonore
d'Orleans-Estouteville), and to his son who became prince of Monaco. It became
theoretically extinct in 1949 at the death of Louis II of Monaco, applying the
edict of 1711 on the transmission of duchies.

The problem is bigger. I regular visited the Book House and
many of bookinist shops in St. Petersburg from 1990 and
I still can't found any books related to european genealogies
(only one I found - it describe genealogies of russian princes).
This is a case why I ask too many stupid questions to the list
without checking of correct names of person and families. I
have no any source at hand. Another problem is that genealogy
is my hobby and I have no any contacts with Univiersities.
sincerely,
Alex.
Alex can you tell me in which countries and which period you are interested.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Francois dies 1 September 1545, and their son becomes
Francois II de Bourbon 3rd Duc d'Estouteville, but he dies
aged only ten in 1546. Then his sister Marie becomes 4th Duchess
d'Estouteville but their mother is still alive until 1560. And so these two
Ducal creations, 1534 and 1537,
should they be seen as two separate titles? I think so, this has been done
in England with the Dukes of Hamilton, but I still don't understand the
numbering of these Dukes d'Estouteville. 1.Duchess Adrienne, 2.Duke
Francois I,
3.Duke Francois II and 4.Duchess Marie.
By the Dukes of Hamilton the husband was Duke of Hamilton for life and by a
separate creation, and he does not figure in the numbers of those Dukes.
Who has better knowledge about French titles and can explain this? I think
Alex has touched on a very interesting problem. Mr. Settipani can you explain?
Many thanks
Leo van de Pas
Dear Leo!
My knowledges about those periods based on popular works of W. Scott,
Shakespear, Dumas, M. Druon, Henry Mann etc. I fan of their heroes and
have interest in theirs real life, real families and genealogies.
sincerely,
Alex.
