The following is from (my ref 145) Burke's Peerage and
Baronetage 1998. (Other refs 003: Burkes 1938; 004
Complete Peerage; 050 Pym Yeatman's Browne's of Bechworth
Castle; 119 David Faris Plantagenet Ancestry of 17c
Colonists (1st Ed); 136 Shaw's Knights).

Is this descent accurate, what about the early generations?

There is a claim that they may have been descended from
Robert d'Estouteville, supposedly one of Wm I's companions,
although he is not one of the "accepted" companions at the
battle. I can not find a reference to him in Keats-Rohan's
Domesday People. I will post an extract from "The Battle
Abbey Roll" by the Duchess of Cleveland (1889) on him in part 2.

The second edition of Plantagenet Ancestry has corrected this descent. The
information stated by Adrian above is correct. Agnes Constable was Sir John
Skipwith's mother and the wife of Sir William Skipwith (1417-1485). The
second edition will include the FitzWilliam ancestry.

I was informed of this correction by the author.

If the first wife of the 4th Baron was indeed Alice Skipwith and if Thomas
Skipwith m Margaret d of the 5th Baron, this relationship seems to close to
be allowed and in a different generations - Margaret is marrying her
grandmother's brother's son. >>

Besides the degrees of consanguinity the other problem is that apparently for
Burke to be correct about the marriage Sir William Willoughby de Eresby, 5th
Baron and Lucy Lestrange had two daughters with almost identical names.
Margery married into the FitzHugh line and Margaret is reported to have
married Thomas Skipwith.

Any help with this quandary would be greatly appreciated.
